Featured More hybrids and less EVs to reduce emissions

It is tough to do, and more so when considering every source. Of the non-exhaust particle emissions, tires are just a portion. There is also the brakes, road, and resuspension of all those, plus exhaust, that had settled on the road surface. The particles from the road are almost as much as the tires.

Quit 'chipping' them, and it will be less.

 

I think I 'chipped 'em once in 30k miles. Blackened rear hatch happens when I drive in rain. Reminds me I gotta wash it tomorrow.

 

It isn't uncommon to see a 'performance' modified economy car with a blackened bumper. It is from them not paying for a proper tune. They've tried doing it them selves, or they bought a cheap widget that plugs into the ECU that causes the engine to run rich, making soot. I guess it could be from soft performance tires, but doubt that.

 

But look at a concrete driveway and even that accumulates dirt. Add lots of traffic, heat and you know all tires wear out in 30 to 70k miles so the "rubber" has to go somewhere. It isn't the tires kicking them up like heavy mud but throwing the particles into the air where the swirl of the air forces them back into the rear of the car.

I said I was going to wash the car today but got stung by ground bees badly and so it will have to wait till I feel better. They die tomorrow. What are the odds that I have a complete bee keepers outfit just sitting in the basement to wear during the eradication effort (inherited).
