We need to get more GM fans to sign up! I felt so bad for the Chevy, I wanted to go back and change some of my answers.

    Okay the ev1 was definitely more sporty, even the 4-door version, but who remembers that. And even the upgraded nickel metal hydride version only had 115 mile range ... But .... until they throttled back the software, it could actually burn out. Woohoo! doesn't look like rev one will do that. Let's call it rev1 post-bankruptcy.

    a friend reminded me that the tesla/ev1 nose shape is similar to both disney's splash mountain log front end's & a snow plows shovel shape - they incorporate the same curve. Water snow or air ... some how that shape .... "it works" .

    It's just my personal preference, but I like the look of the Model 3 much better than the Bolt. Of course that's of little importance since I couldn't hope to afford either of them, but if others with money feel the same way, that could partly account for the substantially bigger interest in the Model 3.

    If everyone had the same attitude about their cell phone as they do their cars we would all be stuck replacing aa batteries twice a day. "Waiting an hour to charge my phone is unacceptable. I need instant electricity refills.":rolleyes:

    Maybe in 6 or 7 years. I'm interested in electric cars, but I'm also perfectly happy with my Prius. And by the time my car is no longer the model of pristine reliability that it is today, I figure (or at least hope) the fast charging network should be built up enough such that even an apartment dweller such as me will find it practical to own one.

    I doubt it. Oil is bound to run out and/or become very expensive. We have lots of natural gas (fracking, anyone?), but that too is not infinite. I truly believe in electric locomotion being the best option going forward. It allows us to use whatever method is best at the moment to power EVs. It may take a bit more progress, however to figure out solutions to some challenges current EVs have. As I stated above, there are use cases that simply can not be addressed by the current EVs. An emergency that requires you to go beyond the range that is currently in your battery is one. Spontaneous need for a ride beyond the charge in your battery. We equate personal vehicles with freedom to go wherever and whenever we want, but with the current EV design it's just not possible. You need a backup for certain cases (like the safety razor at work for when you didn't charge your electric razor).

    I imagine some sort of a game changer breakthrough in electric storage technology. Super capacitors, maybe something we haven't even thought of, but something that makes charging quick and easy (like pumping gas). Then the gassers are history. Until then, we are stuck with them at least partially. Current crop of EVs will come down in price and many people will adapt them because many will use them for very predictable commuting patterns. I think more and more workplaces will install charging parking spots and more and more public parking lots will do the same. We are getting there, but the big one will be when the car can be topped off to go 300 miles in 5 minutes. That would put the last nail in the gassers' coffin (except for enthusiast gearheads who love tinkering with engines).

    People think a BEV has to do everything. "But what if I....?" insert some scenario that would exceed range or charging time. The reality RIGHT NOW is that BEVs are happiest in a two car family serving commuter/around town duties while the other car can handle longer range duties. If you have a BEV as your only car, well, good on you. And I assume there's a pretty good backup plan in place for that scenario - taxi, rental, borrow, whatever. But you don't perform brain surgery with a hammer, do you? Nor should you expect a BEV to be all things to all the people at this point in time in their development.

    Tesla has only started delivery about a week ago. Its a little early to decry the Model 3 as being too expensive this far into the model's production run. Yes the higher priced trims are being made and sold first. That is actually the norm in this business.

    The Model 3 is available at $35k, and it isn't a radio is optional stripper of yesteryear. That isn't a price the unwashed masses can afford, but it is cheaper than the Chevy, and is far more EV than the over $30k Leaf when it first arrived.
    You can't tow a 20 foot boat with a Prius, and no pick up gets over 50mpg. Even now ICE cars can't be everything for all people.
