The differences in cold temperature properties between 0w and 5w are negligible under most temperature conditions.

I agree - under "most" conditions.

Then again I had a chat with an office-mate from our head office in Chicago. They have brutal winters out there. Some mornings his car would be as hesitant as him to start as he is to go to work.

Here are some U.O.A.s for our Yaris , a cousin of the "C" and 1st / 2nd generation Prius . The Toyota ( Denso ) 90915-YZZF2 was used for those intervals . The SHELL full synthetic can be had for less than $3.20 a quart at BJs Wholesale . Number 1 is the Shell synthetic 5w-20 , 2 is the Shell synthetic 5w-30 and 3 is Pennzoil conventional ( Yellow Bottle ) 5w-30 . All are S.N. / GF-5 . The 5w-20 should be able to go 7,500 miles with ease in any Prius . The sale for the SHELL ends today at BJs . There's a printable coupon at their site that gives a free 60 day trial with the discounts of a regular member . That ends the 8th 0f July . Here that is , http://www.bjs.com/biz/minisite_map/images/pass.gif . I think that MOBIL 1 is also on sale at BJs . GEDC2155.JPG

Thanks for posting that. Any particular reason why 5w-20 would be 7,500miles vs 0w-20. I know that mobil 1 has 5w-20 EP which I use for my Odyssey. That is supposed to last 15K miles. I am using it now with no problem. I just change it once a year regardless of if I reach 15K or not. (Usually it is around 12 - 13K)

The TBN of 4 . Plenty of life left . Plus the the assistance of the electric motor cutting down the use of the I.C.E..
