Got a call from a buddy today who lives in St. Joseph, Mo. That is where I would have ordered my Prime from if I had not already ordered here in Nebraska. They got a silver advanced in in late March. They were hoping they could sell it to me if mine did not come in here. I guess they could not sell it or even have people nipple looking at it so they panned it off on another dealership somewhere.

Toyota has done a terrible job marketing this car. It is an amazing car but no one knows about it.

That's what we ordered (only 10 days ago)... Blue Magnetism / Moonstone / Premium. We *might* actually have it before the end of (GASP!) September....

A similar thing happened with me here... only WORSE! I saw on-line that a dealership "only" 90 miles from here had a Prime AND was then told over the phone that it was, in fact, ON THE LOT to look at! We drove there bright-and-early the next day... and it was NOT there!!! Fortunately, a few days later, we DID find one about 60 miles away (a special order that had come in but the owner had not picked it up yet), we DID get to see it in person, and THEN we drove the 10 miles or so from that dealership to ANOTHER dealership and special ordered ours from the same sales rep that sold us "MITHRIL" back in August of '08....

 

Really? EIGHT months? I'm just now working my way through this ENTIRE "thread" so forgive me if this is no longer a valid question that I'm posting... 'kay? Anywhooo... I sure hope our wait won't be that long! (We just placed our order on the 1st of May.)

IF it ends up looking like we won't have our "special order" before the end of September, we'll just CANCEL it and put one in for the 2018 model year! (Our sales rep has ASSURED me that it will be FINE if I do that... they'll simply have my ORIGINAL order on their lot and be able to sell it to someone else....)

If you have to wait that long, it better be a 2018, with the new supercharger turbo package and 4KW roof/hood solar cells, and Peasant Eliminator forward AND rear-mounted missiles!! Oh yeah, almost forgot, the Police Pursuit Car Immobilizer, and of course (separate package), Helicopter Thwarting Cloaking Device!! Har, har, har! Mine will be Darth Vader Black!!

That's where we went - 90 miles away from us - because we were told they had a Prime on the lot JUST about three months after you posted this, ONLY to find out they did NOT have any on lot! (David Bruce Toyota I presume?)

 

Yup. I haven't stopped in to follow up, but I have never seen one in the lot when I drive by.

Also the bigger dealer up in Matteson said they were not getting any at all, but they would be happy to order one for me though. Sorry, but I don't buy sight unseen....

 

That's what I was told at one dealership (the same one where we bought our '08 Prius)... NO problem if I "back out" EVEN if "my" car comes in and THEN "back out". They'll give me my check back ($500... they will NOT cash it until "whenever") or just rip it up (OR hold it if I still buy one there) and then simply sell the car I had ordered to someone else... PROBABLY for about $1000 more then the price they would have expected me to pay for it (no mark-up... just like when we bought our '08 from them when people were waiting months for those!)....

 

Indy, huh? May I ask what dealership? We placed an order with the Toyota dealership in Avon, but ONLY ten days ago, so I know we still have a LONG wait!

 

May to September is nothing. I placed my order & put a deposit down in mid-November 2016. Was first told the car would most likely arrive in early January but as that date came closer I got informed Toyota put a hold on the order. Kept contacting the dealership every month with the only reply being "We placed the order, just waiting on Toyota to build it". FINALLY got better news about a week ago saying my car is currently being built and should be here by the end of June. So a 7 month wait for me IF it actually arrives in June.

 

Man, I'm stunned at how poorly you Midwestern car enthusiasts are being treated!! I'm impressed by your fortitude, and patience when it comes to getting these Primes. It's really too bad that there aren't that many of these cars to go around yet, so that corporate interests must favor certain areas in order to maximize their smog law compliance. I can tell you that the car is absolutely worth the hassle, but if it were me in your shoes (and I am a registered car fiend, har, har!), I would do as some others have, and scout out "nearby" places that have verifiable stock that you can buy now. Price is important, but not the only thing. I paid more than several people posting here, but I got exactly what I wanted, immediately.

Put the deposit down on January 2 and still waiting! I'm told they've been waiting for the cars to be delivered from the railroad yard in St Paul (where I live!) to the suburb 20 miles away where the dealership is. Arggh!

 

HOPEFULLY that (order process quite easy) will be the case with me... I ordered a Prime from the same dealership / the same sales rep that sold us our '08 Prius when new. AND even though it's 55 miles from our house to the dealership, I've been getting it serviced there, too, so the service department knows me very well, too. BTW... we also ordered the Blue Magnetism. Did you get the Black or Moonstone interior? (Moonstone for us.)
