40/38 for me! Recent mileage around 54mpg! NICE!

 

Yep! 9+ years 42/40 perfect wear no problems!

 

what warranty the road hazzard, or for uneaven wear. I don't thin they will ever cover a tire that wears uneaven, the tires will end up wearing better with higher psi. up to sidewall max. if your tires wear uneven it will usually be due to hard cornering or under pressuer or alignement. IMO

 

Hello, I bought the Michelin Premier on Wednesday in 215-45-17 and I feel like my MPG has gone down. I thought that it would since I upgraded from 15" to 17", but Im just wondering if its the tires too.
It makes me sad when I see my gas tank go down so quickly
So I really really want the Michelin Energy Saver A/S but the the only thing that I thought might be comparable would be the 215-50-17? Would that fit on my Prius? And would it even help in the MPG? Or does anyone have any suggestions on a Michelin tire thats better for MPG since I have the 30 day satisfaction guarantee to exchange.
The Premier A/S said it was 10 out of 10 for fuel efficiency, but Im not sure if it really is or if its just me getting used to 17" vs. 15".
Any experience with this?

P.S. My license plate is SIPNGA5, so that just doesn't fit if it keeps up like this.

 

Going from OEM 15" to any 17" is going to have a negative effect on mpg. The consensus from owners with OEM 17" is 2~3 mpg drop.

Ours has the OEM 17" (Michelin Pilot), in 215/45R17. They're not bad, but I'm sure we'd do better with 15". Just couldn't stand the 15" plastic wheel covers.

As to that "10 out of 10", that's on the Michelin site right? They seem to be using a very coarse measurement, awarding any-and-all of their half decent tires a "10", and none significantly lower.

 

You might see if you can get the "Primacy" in your size. They came on the 2013 I bought that was fitted with 17" rims from the distributor here in the Southwest. Getting decent MPG as long as I don't hot rod the Prius. I hope my signature file still works here. Haven't been on PC since the forum upgraded. Nice look ADMINS!

 

Such a tough decision here, we live in Phoenix so our only concern is occasional wet weather in monsoon season and maybe once or twice hitting the snow up north in Flagstaff.

Other than that we want long tread life and great MPG.

The concern w/ the Goodyears is it only has one review and it's negative

In addition, I have a Sam's Club membership, but it looks like their prices are about the same or a little higher than Discount Tire and I'm guessing it doesn't include mount/balance.

 

I will vote for the Primacy's. I really like them on our new Prius.

I have the Primacy also. Really softens the ride, but still handles well. No drop off in mpg versus the oem tires they replaced.

 

Aren't the primacy available in H as well (as opposed to V)? Cheaper?

 

I just increased mine to that as well, so we'll see what happens. I'm only at 46 mpg right now, but as I've said, that includes a lot of idle time siting in the driveway. I'll probably fill up for the first time on Monday while I'm out for lunch and then I'll be able to start over on a fresh tank to see what mpg I'll get driving it regularly. I guess I need to read up on how to reset the Trip A and Trip B display. I assume CONS and MPH will get reset at the same time.

 

Yes. Mine are 195/65R15 91H. Just noticed vr4playa is looking at 215/45R17 87V, so not really quite the same thing. The 17 inch low profile V rated tire will be less mpg, due to size, and harsher ride due to profile and stiffer V rating. Should still be a nice tire though.

 

Yea, unfortunately we have the 17" rims on a Prius 5. Yes they look nice, but defeats the purpose of the car being all about the fuel economy

 

We have the 17" OEM rims with Michelin pilots. Doing not too bad, what with not really trying hard, lots of short trips. The fuelly icon is pretty much since new.

I would choose one of the Michelins. The Energy Saver will use a bit less gas. I'd expect the Primacy to be a less susceptible to damage, more resistant to high heat, provide better handling and be more secure on wet or snowy roads. It may also be more stable in crosswinds and on freeways in poor condition.
We went for the Primacy MXV4 (195-15) from Costco.

 

On my second set of Energy Saver AS, 195x65x15, on our 2010 Prius. First set nearly 70,000 miles second set well over 20,000 miles and wearing perfectly. I keep all tires at 44 PSI which is max air pressure listed on sidewall of tire. The myth of wearing out the middle of the tire with max sidewall listed pressure is a myth when dealing with modern tires as today.

MPG's great. Went fishing 80 miles round trip 65 mpg per computer which is about 62 mpg true. The original tires, Yoko Avid, would never return that type of mpg's..

 

I'd really had the Energy's in mind for replacement tire, 'till I realize they're not available in our 215/45R17 size. Even emailed Michelin, but they said no chance, and suggested the Premiers. Think I'd opt for primacy though, believe they're slightly ahead in RR.

 

I agree with you Mendel, It really sucks we can't get Energy Savers for our 17" rims. I had them on my Prius three and they fabulous for mpg and smoothness. Great tire for sure.

 

So we ended up going with the Premier A/S per the recommendation of the guy at Discount Tire, $9 less per tire(vs. the Primacy MXM4) and 60k wty vs. 55k, not to mention they are advertised as "fuel saver" tires.

 

Bridgestone EP20's, $98/each from the same source. Those other tires are overpriced.
