MFD is too bright

That's how I have it and if I turn on night mode during the day, you can just barely read the white text on the MFD, but you almost can't see any of the other colored graphics at all. However, when dark, that setting is very viewable and not overly bright.

Marlin,
I am first time owner of a Prius, and am still learning! Steps #3 and #4 confuse me. In my ignorance, it would seem that Step #3 should direct turning thumb wheel to "night mode," and Step #4 direct turning wheel back to "day mode." I have been having difficulties trying to understand owner's manual's directions for use of the "day mode." Actually, I have up using the owner's manual, and have consulted postings in PriiusChat.
