Didn't have to do nothing to the van. Some spilled oil, grease, brake fluid, etc. on a hot surface is all it takes. Even an electrical short is enough. Gasoline burns a long time too, if it isn't just dumped out all at once in a big fireball.
is it safer to burn for hours - the burning starts much slower than gas? or safer to burn out quicker, but it explodes, w/ less chance of survival .... .
Current repair estimate is $12,400 vast majority is parts, lot less labor than I expected. The vans insurance is still investigating to determine if they will take liability, or if they can prove "faulty repairs" who they are going to shift the blame to. Current game plan is to pay my deductible. Then once the vans insurance gets sorted, follow up on getting my deductible, rental, and diminished value covered. Hopefully the responsible party has enough insurance.
Dang....that's a crying shame! Reading through the comments, some say plastic is cheap, well it is but Toyota plastic is never cheap! My guess was $9,000 but not surprised by over $12,000....that back lift and windshield need replacing. Post after-repair pictures!
