    There is only one smoot, and it defined as the height of Oliver R. Smoot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia while he was attending MIT as an undergrad.

    The best part of the Smoot story is that he went on to become the Chairman of the American National Standards Institute and President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

    I liked the precision of the smoot, but I also like the Holy Grail calibration precision of (coconut) unladen swallow airspeed velocity.

    Present smoot to bridge length - I paced the entire distance making periodic checks. I should have taken photos.
