Low Rolling Resistance replacement tyres (Europe)

I ordered the Toyo NanoEnergy 2 225/45 R17 94W XL, the price was 386.80EUR including taxes and delivery. I'm pretty sure this cannot go wrong.

 

Mind me asking, where did you order them from?

That's my go-to shop for tyres, and this is the listing I saw too. Almost double from Fintoy's quote. Except.. if he only bought 2?

I'm looking to replace OE Bridgestone ecopia B250 195/65 R15 with Dunlop Sport bluResponse.

However only 205/65R15 94H is in stock - do you reckon it's alright to install slightly wider tyres?

Bit concern with street legality, insurance, speedo error and negative impact to fuel economy

I just changed mine 215/45/17 to 205/55/16 and oh boy, what a difference! I will never going back to those 17. Difference is day and night. Much more comfortable + tires are much cheaper. + car still looks very good with 16" but you have more options for fuel economy tires. I am totaly satisfy. As much as I was worry, what 16" will make to my car and if also design will be destroyed, I am so much surprised that now I like everything. Much more comfort soft ride/less weight wheels/better FE options, cheaper tires/not loosing nice look from outside...win/win

 

so, now, I can not wait for summer to beat my record for usual short trips /2.8l 100km - 26km/ and try to do 800miles per tank.... need to find good FE tires for 205/55/16 till spring starts.... can not wait ;-)

 

these was mine tip, if I will stay on 17 next summer. I had choosen the same for FE and overall good performance.

 

Looking to replace 18" (!) rims with stock on my 2010 (195/65 R15). Can anyone give any advice on choosing between these two:

H 95 XL A A 71

Dunlop Sport BluResponse
H 91 B A 68

Some reviews seem to rate the Dunlop as slightly better so I'm not really sure. Price of both is around the same (~€60).

 

Thanks John, ordered! I found them from a local company for €53 each - a bit cheaper than the Lithuania version of eiretyres.com/mytyres.co.uk where they are €66, so worth shopping around!

 

I recently traded in my 2008 Gen 2 for a Gen 3. However, staying focussed I can honestly state that my mpg never fell below 54.6 (Winter of course) and reached 72mpg (hot British Summer of course) throughout the 6 years and 240,000 miles (reg: DE58 CVO it's out there somewhere I hope). The best all round tyres, having tried Bridgestone, Pirelli and finally 'Budget' boots, guess what????

Yep, you got it, the MATADOR budget tyres were by far the best, grip, mpg and 27,000 out of the last front tyres (ask Motorline Tunbridge Wells - they have the records because, yes they supplied the best deal on tyres) whereas both the Bridgestone were gone by 21-22,000. In the last 2 years of my ownership I inflated the tyres + 5 psi on recommended to help rolling, and it seemed to help a fraction. The only downside was a slightly harder ride.

Consider this seriously, and I need the same, or similar with my Gen 3. However, as you know, the Spirit has low-profile wheels/tyres so I need to be more careful with 'adjustments/tolerances' etc.

Anyone out there in the UK got good, sound and well qualified advice to get the very, very best from the Gen 3 Prius???

So I ended up getting the Nokian eLine2 as here the Hankook's were out of stock everywhere (the beginning of April is when everyone switches to summer tires):

So far seems good, but compared to my 18", at 2.5atm/36psi they are very soft. What is everyone else running 15" at? I'm driving mostly around the city. Max pressure of the tires is 51psi, so I can crank it up a lot

 

Does anyone know if the European Michelin Energy Saver + (or Energy Saver), specifically in 205 55R16, have the letters 'DOT' anywhere on the sidewall? If you don't know about any of those specifically, what about other sizes, or Michelin tires in general, or any tires in Europe?

I'm trying to figure out if I could import a set into Canada. As per Canada Border Services Agency, Importation of Tires, Memorandum D19-12-2, Appendix B, they either need NSM, DOT, DOT-R, or JIS symbols.

P.S. Or maybe the Nokian eLine2? I found availability in 205 55R16, rated A A 68dB, though it's 94 W XL.

 

As far as I know all tyres sold in Europe have DOT letters.

 

Yes, any tyres I've bought here in the past 10+ years have all the DOT markings.

 

Interesting, thanks for you replies. I just checked a tire (from a set of four), a ContiWinterContact TS850, 165/65 R15, Made in France, and to my surprise it had DOT markings, except for the actual letters 'DOT'. It had 'CN30 D2HX 4513', but no 'DOT' anywhere! I wonder why...

Just checked Michelin site and the "Energy" models are not avaliable any more for this tyre size, now only Primacy4 and Alpin:

I use the primacy 4 and they are OK. But the Primacy 3 first edition (I think I had a second set which was slightly different), were MUCH better in road handling. And I don't think the longevity was much less.

Not sure if every 'innovation' is a step forward. Obviously my opinion is just that: an opinion based on limited knowledge and experience.

But when I first got the Primacy3's, I could corner like a bat out of hell, now it easliy starts rolling sideways in the same corners and the wife just wrecked our frontbumper when she lost grip (metal inserts on a bridge in combination with the generator-to-frictionbrake-transition).
I use the 205's by the way (and have a second 205 set for my Volvo V70 AWD but the wife wanted the 4seasons (235) back on that car, so they are waiting in the garage as a back-up set to go on the standard Prius 16" rims).
