I replaced my Yokos (I don't know which brand they were) at just under 4 years and 40,000 miles. They weren't bald but looked pretty worn by then and I was starting to not feel safe in wet weather.

I am one that does not want to do research just tell me which to buy I have a 2008 80,000 miles Local tire discount center Told me the right rear is on the secondary rubber I am looking to replace the tire and possibly other rear tire should I replace all four, the vehicle has 80,000 miles on. I'm sure this is the second set of tires that are currently on it I Drive in central Illinois snow and hot weather Very average driver 12 to 15,000 Per year Could you please just give me some ideas on which tire to purchase This is a great forum I have learned many things the prius is the greatest vehicle I have ever owned I've had it now for eight weeks Thanks in advance for all your help. Should I replace two tires or all four. Or just the one that is on the secondary rubber. I am willing to spend the money to get a good tire with my family on board I don't have any questions but I should have purchased. However I don't want to spend money foolishly

I just replaced my OEM Yokos last month with Michelin Defenders. They had almost 53,000 miles on them and would probably have made it through the summer. Of course, YMMV, and everyone else's, too.

All right - this is a short summary of everything I've learned researching (Consumer Reports and many other tire reviews) my last tire purchase and reading this forum. First, you should change all four tires. It makes no sense to just change one or two unless it's obvious that the other two or three are much newer.

If your primary goal is high gas mileage, Michelin Energy Saver All Season tires are your best bet. They do great in wet weather but snow and ice might be iffy.
The Michelin Primacy [can't remember the model type but it's been mentioned multiple times in this forum] is probably the best rated all season tire for traction and handling in all sorts of weather as well as for low rolling resistance, but you won't get as high gas mileage (from personal experience).
Michelin Defender is probably about the same as the Primacy for gas mileage but has a 90,000 mile warranty, which is much higher than the two mentioned above. It's snow and ice rating is about the same as for the Energy Saver.

All three I mentioned are Michelin because of the Consumer Report ratings and the fact that they are available and on sale at Costco. The Bridgestone Ecopia is another one that's supposed to have good gas mileage but the CR ratings are way down. Of course, a number of other brands have been mentioned in this forum but if you want a quick recommendation, this is it.

Great price but they will put a dent in your mpg. They last a long time though. :)

3-4mpg initially. Maybe 2-3mpg long term. Just a guess.

That's the hit that I took, like the ride and the miles they will go. For me, the long miles they should get is a one time "good feeling", but it won't make up for the "groan" I get at each fill up.:(
