How can a car be lower but not closer to the ground? Uhh?

The chassis stays the same height and only the roof is lowered.

And to think that as late as 1971, some Formula One drivers preferred to drive without belts, to be thrown free of the fireball that would surely (and often did) result from a crash. This was years after US amateur racing required harnesses, much stouter roll bars, better driver protection and fire suits, and in some classes, fuel cells.

Lower overall height, lower seating position, less head clearance, some combination of all three.

    MERGED

And back then, no one sued anyone because it wasn't there.

It would be a shame if there is less head clearance. That is one of the features of the 2010+ models that is really nice for taller drivers. I don't feel cramped at all.

Yep, as others have mentioned - the while 'trim' does make the interior look like a bathroom fixture. As in the porcelain kind of bathroom fixture that you sit on. Hmmm? the shift lever seems to be in an oddly appropriate place in related to the cup holder opening.

But I still like the new (weird) look.

The side mirror controls are now just a knob located ahead of the window and door lock swithes. I enjoyed having the mirror controls on the door in the Gen 2 Prius. I find that location more useful.

Certainly true in the Prius v. Don't recall from my Prius test drive.

Actually, I saw that rear design change in the spy photos and was hoping it wasn't going to be the finished product. It looks stupid, some hack designer 'created' stupid. Are we going back to the 50's fins? Additionally, from the side view, that design makes it look thin in the rear, a reflection of The Honda Insight gen I. Maybe that's what he was going for? If Honda's gen I has anything highlighted, it's a design that nobody liked. . They're going to NEED some hot advancements to sell that hack design, and making it shorter ain't on the top of that list. Shorter to take the additional weight off from widening it? @ a slender 6' in height my Gen 2 requires some squeezing to get in and out of driver's seat, it needs a telescoping steering wheel, if they tightened that up, screw it.

More space too, I did not notice the space difference when I acquired my gen 2, but my previous car, a 2005 Nissan Sentra, averaged 33 MPG city, a bit of a rattle bucket, but in comparison, it had a heck of a lot more space to stick junk in the hatchback.

Good I didn't know that as, I don't 'test' stuff until I have the cash in my pocket. Otherwise if I can still walk when and If I get a gen III or IV, after certain years of crunching my legs, it'll be good to know. [grin] In the mean time with only 220K miles currently and averaging about 10k miles a year,, it may never happen.

Sorry if it's already been asked, but anyway:

Did anyone happen to note what tires were used? In particular on the 17", but whichever.

There are pictures in the reveal album showing close-up images of the tires. They're in there somewhere.

When watching a show or movie with a driving scene, take note: are they wearing seat belts? I find a dismaying high percentage aren't. And they're smoking, yakking on their cells, lol.

Yeah, took some digging: both 15" and 17" are Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 plus:

Not really sure, but I think both 15" and 17" have the fibrous rear fender liner.

Why couldn't they design it so it does not pretend anything? Looks so much better IMHO...
