Hey thanks for the workaround for that bleeping beep in reverse. Major problem solved.

As mentioned earlier, the NAV Override trick does not work on the '06. I have since gotten the NAV Enhancement Kit from Coastal for my '05 and I can tell you that the mod will not work on the '06. This is because when you press the DEST button, you see all the screens that you would see if you were doing the trick yourself. It's possible that the NAV kit from Coastal with the BT may work as it's connected to the MFD, but that's sold out.

Does the Seatbelt mod work with the '06 prius? I tried it, and got a b-on and b-off... I selected b-off, but it still beeped when I started the prius...

Or is it supposed to do that? How does it work?

You will still get four beeps if you don't have the seatbelt fastened at power-up, even in "b-off" mode. What you will NOT get is a constant beeping as you drive down the street.

    yoyo,

so is there any way I could get an aftermarket remote or FOB that has a much larger range? Not sure if this will help, but I'm interested in a remote start setup so i can warm the car up without getting out of the house for next winter. Anyone gotten something like this workin yet? thanks : )

Oh also, anyone permanently disabled their traction control yet? I have been in a few situations where my wheels slipped and I lost power (due to the "traction control") and i had to floor it to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Kind of annoying...could it really cause permanent damage if you disable it or is that just a little CYA action goin on?

The amount of torque the electric motor has could potentially shear off a joint or axle if it grabs after losing traction.

I just purchased a 2003 Prius I live in the UK and I am thinking of buying a few of those blank keys on ebay will your instructions work on them? Or is this only for the new prius? Thank you very much for all the great info some really sweet stuff!

I think that only works on Gen2 Prii. I could be wrong though as mine doesn't have NAV.

[EDIT] I just saw this doesn't work on 2006 models. Thanks.

    ===============

    Disabling Navigation Lock-Out
When moving faster than a very slow speed, many of the navigation setting buttons are disabled (grayed-out). This sequence will override the lock-out until the car is powered off.
    • Press the "Menu" button (hardware button)
    • Press the "Voice" icon on the display
    • Press the upper left corner of the display, where the speaker icon is
    • Press the lower left corner
    • Press the upper left corner again
    • Press the lower left corner again
    • The screen should change to a diagnostic screen
    • Hold the "Override" button for several seconds until it changes to black
Warning: do not play with things on this screen that you don't know about!

I want to venture a guess and say that the 2006 Motion Sensor override is a hidden button or sequence of screen touches on the already "hidden" maintenance menu (Display button, tap top left corner just under the blue/orange line, tap bottom left corner just above the blue/orange line, repeat screen taps 4 more times - twice each.)

So from here...maybe another sequence will lead to an override.

    Maybe.

oil change/maintenance light. Says "MAINT", I believe. Shows on the idiot light panel, NOT the touchscreen. Comes on briefly at 500 miles prior to service interval, going out after driving a bit. Then at the 5,000 mile interval it will stay on permanently until the above procedure is done to reset and turn it off for another 5,000 miles.

    Cheers,

    Curt.

Anybody hacked the voice of the 2006 Nav system? The female voice is pleasing enough, but I was thinking of a Starship Enterprise Motif and being called Captain!

I can't find a "volume soft button" on the '06. Now what?

The "VOLUME" button will appear on the screen after you press the MENU "hard" button.

"Soft" in this case is referring to the button because it is a touch screen button that appears on the screen, not that it makes the volume softer.

Of course this a moot point as this trick won't work on the 2006.

There's a speed sensor wire (also one for the BT) which you can cut and put in a switch. In the ON position, it works normally and in the OFF position you (or rather, your passenger) can enter data. Not a hack, but it does work.

You have to cut a wire and install a switch. Go to http://www.darelldd.com/ev/prius_speed_wire.htm to see where to cut and http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=3457 if you decide to remove the A/C vent cover in order to cut the wire down below.
