Hi Air_boss I recall that Prius Chat (PC) members that emailed Toyota got back short explanations stating the wheel covers (hubcaps) are there to decreased aerodynamic drag leading to better MPG. That didn't seem to be any/very much to improve on for the nice allow wheels under some of the wheel covers. It is just hard to imagine any minute drag reduction not getting lost to the extra weight. It is still is a mystery to me, but I say take them off if you have nice wheels underneath. Then you can sell them or keep them just in case?
My point: Why wheel covers over (black or silver) alloys? Explained above as for aero gains -- I'm from Missouri on that one. Moon covers, yeah. These? Not so much.
