Lexus HS250h sales disappoint ... because high end Prius is NICE! and gets 50mpg?

That's pretty much beside the point. Why would anyone buy a Lexus that looks like a Toyota? That's the real problem and has nothing to do with the Prius.

I have never ever pretended to be an expert, and on numerous occasions I have made it very clear that it is just an opinion and that ALL interpretations of luxurious are just that...Subjective opinions...

But sometimes you need to know when you don't have edequate experience to form an opinion.

Now that is just downright arrogant and rude...and still missing the point...Luxurious is different to everyone there is no right answer and we all have different experiences...even in one's own family...My late grandmother, a Barones, would have a very different interpretation of luxurious than I would have, and again I have a very different one compared to my sister who is a punk rocker, heck hot water is luxurious to her...But I guess this is just a fruitless discussion...

PS. I'm not a native English speaker, but I do think it is adequate ;-)

One experience you have not had, and that I and others have had is actually seeing, sitting in, & driving the vehicle in question. You're the one missing the point, we were saying since you have not seen the vehicle in person and haven't experienced the interior firsthand...you don't have the experience to form an opinion.

Its arrogant and rude to assume that you have enough information to form an opinion without actually seeing the object we are discussing. Notice we are arguing with you and not markdrail who shares the same opinion. He has seen the car...you haven't.

You posted more than just a respectful opinion too, you made some VERY bold and dramatic statements alluding to the idea that people who found the HS interior luxurious didn't know what true luxury was...and somehow implying that you do...when you haven't even seen the car.

THAT my friend is arrogant and rude.

I'm most definitely not your friend :)

The implication you read is an interpretation not a statement of fact ;-) I don't like the look of it what I see on the pictures, since when is that not enough not to be able to form an opinion...

Opinion: "a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge" or if you prefer "the term opinion may refer to unsubstantiated information"

So who are you to tell someone else they can't form an opinion because they haven't experienced it? Unless we are talking contracts and you think some stranger on a forum is giving out legal opinions...It would be a rather odd place to discuss anything then wouldn't it....

As far as the quality or luxury factor i too was disappointed with the pictures of the 250h Lexus. I own a Lexus 400h and a 2010 Prius IV with solar and am very happy with both vehicles. Yes the Lexus 400h is a lot nicer than the Prius but what do you expect.

Back to the 250h though while i was initially disappointed with pictures on the internet i was impressed when i went to the dealer and drove one. The interior looks and feels so much different in person compared to the way it looks in pictures and online. I wanted the hatch back feature of my 2010 Prius otherwise i would buy a 250h. It is quieter, the leather is nicer, the fit, finish and overall feel of the 250h is definitely more luxurious then my 2010 Prius IV.

The exterior styling does leave me wishing for more departure from looking like an upscale Corolla or Camery. The tech toys though are numerous and the car i believe handles the road better than my Prius. The 18" wheels and wishbone rear suspension are most likely the reason. I of course cant be sure with only a test drive but i suspect the Lexus 250h wont have the cold weather dash squeaks that the 2010 Prius does.

    My 2 cents!

    I think I'll survive.

Thats enough to say "I don't like the way that looks in the picture", but not enough to make all the bold statements you made, no.

I'm not saying you can't form an opinion...I'm saying your opinion is meaningless and has no value unless you have actually experienced what it is you are opining on. The issue is that you don't seem to realize that.

I can say that the UK is a terrible place to live. Its always grey...people there are nasty and rude. Anybody who thinks the UK is a decent place to live doesn't understand what a decent place to live is. That would however be a meaningless and pointless statement since I have never lived in...or even been to the UK. I've seen it in pictures.

I think both sides made the point very clear.

I was taken by the size of the 8" LCD screen. It is not something you can fit in Double DIN size; max is 7".

Yeah its a nice screen, and the new mouse interface is well done too even if it takes a little getting used to.

I don't think thats true at all in this particular case. Plenty of people in this thread have been critical of the HS.

"Luxury" hybrid vehicles only fall in ONE class, the "boy-racer" mentality types that are more interested in 0-60 times as opposed to FE, or NOT FE at all (LS600h).

The first thing I did with our Prius was convert all of the bulbs to more efficient LEDs and the headlights to HID. Leather seats REQUIRE seat heating but cloth seats do not. If your primary interest is FE then you will see no need for all the GOO-GAH luxury accessories.

IMMHO there is no "in-between" market.

I cancelled my pre-order for an RX400h just as soon as I saw the specs.

I'm now looking forward to the 2012 Mercury Mariner hybrid. Provided that is, that it adopts DFI along with Toyota's new e/VVT-i multimode engine technique. Otto mode, 15:1 CR, for cruising, and then Atkinson mode, 12:1 CR, for power/WOT.

Thank you, you have just proven my point. I've lived for 16 years in the UK, my wife for over 35 years and we couldn't agree more :thumb: I don't think you could have described the general mood and experience of the country any better. And that is without visiting it...

I kind of agree, I mean we looked at the RX450h and whilst I liked I was really getting to what is the point...Sure it is the lowest emissions SUV you can buy in the UK but it is still only 5 seats, still can't tow my boat, still uses a lot of fuel and still a soft roader opposed to an off roader....In class it makes most sense, but to me after having been in that class for about 8 years the class doesn't make any sense anymore...

I got to check out the Mercury Mariner hybrid, haven't really kept up much....But it would be of interest for my boat, I was toying with the idea of changing the petrol v8 Volvo Penta for a diesel version but if they do a decent power hybrid that could make more sense...

Hmm there was me checking out the Mercury website and couldn't find anything about a hybrid boat engine...So there is a car maker with the same name and then even the model designation reflecting on a very old established marine brand...

    Are these the same companies?

PS. I think the Mariner looks hideous but lets not go there again ;)

I'd readily accept a new F/awd RX300h provided it used the new Venza I4 upgraded to DFI and equipped with Toyota's new e/VVT-i technique and the Venza's rear drive design.

Actually I'd JUMP at the chance to buy one.
