Seems these days if a car is under $40k it is affordable :)

I'll splash grand, glorious pics of my pre-owned VOLT right up here ... and while I'm dreaming, I might as well ask for a pony too.

It's not exactly an easy task to advertise the Prius, since it doesn't look manly enought for the average "urban cowboy" who gets a gas-guzzling truck as a man-card. But focusing on its practical aspects would be better than a childish advertisement.

You are so far from being right you have shot past ’ left’ and gone directly to "Wth is that next to that star in that galaxy over there?" The fact you didn't immediately recognize there is a portion of the population insulted by this commercial could imply, among other things, you have no clue what these cars cost, you are an elitist snob, or you are so self-absorbed in your blogging forum filled world you don’t know how bad off the vast majority of the US populace really is in regards to financial stability. I’m sure you are a great guy though and you mean well, so please don’t take this personally.

There is not a Prius for EVERYONE! Due to the fact they are ‘artificially’ overpriced there is no way the common, lower middle classed individual can afford one. Well, at least not one that doesn’t already have like 200k miles on it and is around 8 to 10 years old.

I can buy a brand new car from most other manufacturers for less than what a 5 year old Prius w/ 100k miles on it costs. The ironic thing is those other cars will get nearly the same overall gas mileage the Prius does (40+ mpg on most). Yah good news for Prius owners…they hold their re-sale value.

Although I completely agree the song sounds cool and is very catchy, I disagree on its effectiveness as a marketing campaign tool. Whereas on the surface it makes it appear there is a Prius for everyone, once people go out and try to get one, and find it is rather difficult for those members of the population whom are less than affluent to find a Prius for them, the Toyota Prius image will be marred.

Oh sure, people will still want one, the same way we always wanted a BMW in the 80’ and 90’s and secretly hated the people whom could afford one. We all want to do our part to help the planet, even red-neck republicans, and drive a 'green' car. the problem is most can't afford one. What this country needs is a green "Model T". A car the workers can afford! I would like to see a Prius in every Walmart and McDonalds' parking lot... And I mean the IN the Employee parking section, not just the customer parking.

Now if you just read this and you are like, “I don’t get it. What is he complaining about. They don’t coast that much.” Congratulations Sister/Brother!!! You made it to the big time, that deluxe apartment in the sky.” Just move along to the next forum page cause there is nothing to see here for you. You won't get "it".

Just recently one of my cousins bought a 2010 Honda Insight because it was cheaper used than a Toyota Prius. My cousin who is retired and drives only occasionally wanted a reliable fuel efficient vehicle but the catch is that he lives in Virginia (anti-hybrid-land) and he wanted to avoid getting hit too hard on his personal property tax ( VA annually levies a tax on its citizens/residents based on the assessed value of their vehicle) so he needed to keep the annual assessment of his vehicle low. So high resale value and the low depreciation rate of a used Toyota Prius made it less appealing (tax wise) to him than a used 2010 Honda Insight which has lower resale price and higher depreciation rate.
