If you want a smaller car with excellent mpg and a better ride than a Prius, consider the Corolla LE or Corolla Cross.
Ha, ha, ha….very funny. I know I’m all over the place! This is a decision I have to live with for at least 10 years. Wish I was in the position to switch out cars more often.
Prepping in case the Forester hybrid appears before the 2024/2025 Prius and in case I decide comfort is better than best mpg. I’ve never driven a Forester but wouldn’t get one unless it was hybrid. Obviously the hybrid will handle a bit differently but just curious. I’d like to see/feel how it compares to the Cross Hybrid. A community garden buddy was driving a Nissan Kick or whatever it’s called. He was thrilled with 37mpg. It’s all so relative. Not bad looking.
Because Corolla doesn’t have a hatch. If Corolla Cross hybrid felt more secure on the road it would be my second choice. “Where’s the map pocket?” No one uses maps anymore although the pockets cone in handy for other things. Must be another cost cutting decision.
I would get the Corolla Cross Hybrid unless you prefer a bigger SUV like the Forester. Corolla Cross Hybrid is very secure on the road, more so than Forester, and you get TSS 3.0.
I use paper maps all the time. The map in the infotainment center is always too small and limited. Toyota's maps are horrible - I can't see the white roads against the pastel backgrounds. If you zoom out the minor roads disappear. If it was portrait and the car was at the bottom of the screen it might help - I don't care what's behind me, I want to see more of what's ahead... I suppose it's okay for short trips in the neighborhood, but I know those roads already and don't need a map for them!
Yep. Plenty of gas guzzling hybrids out there. The number one selling PHEV is a Jeep 4xe. A Crown hybrid is rated just 1 mpg better than my non hybrid Outback. It may or may not do better for me on the commute. The base Crown does better, but it is a sedan, which I don't want. The wagon will be a direct Outback competitor, but isn't out yet. It will also start thousands more. The Highlander is bigger than I need, and, again, thousands more. The Rav4 is smaller. Plus, none of the three Toyotas I've owned in the past were comfortable.
I didn’t realize the Cross Hybrid is a more secure. I guess safety system wise which is definitely important to me. It’s mostly the floaty driving sensation I don’t like about the Cross Hybrid. Out of curiosity I want to see how the Subaru’s feel on the road.
These days most drivers use CarPlay or Android Auto for maps. In my Rav4 with an IPhone it’s CarPlay with a choice of Apple Maps (default and surprisingly good), Waze (best for driver to driver warnings such as speed traps or road debris) or the Gold Standard, Google Maps with superior real time traffic and rerouting if desired. Google Maps also allows map downloads of your part of the country or everything for offline use should the cell service drop. No Toyota subscription needed.
