Largest or most unusual Load Carried in Your Prius

Largest cargo hauled in her Prius.... Just a "few" bags from our vacation. I still don't know how I made it all fit. Gotta love a hatchback.

hmmm.. largest load in my prius..

When I was moving, I folded the back seat down, and fit a twin sized mattress, box frame, and then a full size futon in one trip. The trunk closed all the way (whew). Oh and then I stuffed a few more boxes in the passenger seat next to me . I had no back view and no right view, but I used the back up camera to get me out of the garage. Got on the freeway and kept changing lanes leftward (I could see left), drove on carpool lane all the way. The exit to my new place also has a car pool only exit, so I didn't need to change too many lanes.

The trip was impeccably planned

Didn't have a camera, but wished I would have. 30 cases of Kirkland Brand Soymilk (12-1 quart containers per case, about 21 lbs/case).

 

Not impressive compared to you guys stories, but 2 folding tables 8 feet long and a pop-up canopy with 6 ft poles. My friend who owns them was astounded - she'd been promising to come get them in her cargo van.
Not bad for having owned the car less than 24 hours....

I hauled 12-2.0 cu. ft. bags of cypress mulch. I saw that I still had a little room, so a couple of days later, I hauled 16 bags 20 miles home from Menards and got 61 mpg for the trip. I made the two trips for less than 1.5 gallons of gas. In the Nissan truck that I traded in for a new HCHII, I would have used almost 5 gallons. It makes a great truck. I don't think I will be hauling rock or patio blocks in it though.

I have a wooden desk that I'm rather fond of and when I was in the process of moving, I thought 'I wonder if I can get it in the Prius?' It's about four feet long and basically a cuboid in shape. It's a little taller than wider and my tape measurer indicated that, theoretically, the desk would fit. It fit in very well and I was able to easily close the hatch. Granted, it's not the most unusual load but it was pretty big. I've also been able to transport a lot of 8-foot pieces of 2X4 and 2X6 and steel pipe.

not the largest or most volume but.....

Today I went to Home Depot and bought one of those enclosed miniblind systems for your door. It is two panes of glass with miniblinds in between. You mount it on your door. I'm in the process of putting in a french door in my kitchen. The glass portion is 24 x 66. I bought the 25 x 66 enclosed blind. There is padding on all sides so the box is wider by a few inches all around.

I put the back seats down and slid it in. I closed the hatch and...done. I even pulled the tonneau cover over it since I slid it underneath. I didn't even have to move my driver's seat. Now granted, I'm only 5'2" but my seat is not all of the way forward. It is back a bit. I like to drive with my arms as straight as possible but still be able to reach the pedals. I had pulled the passenger seat forward but once the door was in I moved it back a bit.

Too bad the parking lot was so deserted. I would have liked a few people going...a prius? no way, not going to happen, just watch.....Wth?

I saw this thread over the weekend and I knew I would be coming close to the weight record on Monday, so...

18 - 12"x9"x9" boxes of printed material at approx 55 lbs each = 990 lbs
1 - 35 lb hand truck
1 - driver (that's me) 145 lbs.

Total? Approx 1,170 lbs and with a 1/2 tank of gas.

I wish I had a photo, the rear wheel wells were almost rubbing the tires. Only had to transport this "load" about 10 miles to the nearest FedEx drop point. Was almost able to close the rear hatch, used a bungie cord to hold it shut within 2 inches.

I know, this would cause serious damage if I did it often, but these boxes "absolutly, positively had to get there over night...."

Does this hold the weight record?

Still got 43.2 mpg during this trip!

I had an XBox360 in the back of mine today. It isn't of the largest dimensions and it isn't the heaviest but it's the biggest pile of s**t you can fit into the rear of any car!!!!!

 

ok

now for some reason, when i post, i get a message that i "have not entered any item to search" or something weird.

but went i ikea last week, got two nightstands, a dresser, a corner unit display stand, knick-knacks, a coffee table and an end table. not all that much, but still had room for more

4 kayaks -

2 18 foot sea kayaks on roof rack and 2 whitewater kayaks inside (had to move the passenger seat all the way forward!)

 

We hauled approx. 700-800 lbs. of flagstone in the back of mine a few months ago.

other things include
8 ft ladder
9 ft christmas tree
my office - bought at IKEA it was probably 8 boxes or so of stuff!

We have to remember to take pics!
