Lane Keep Assist comments

    That's not the way mine works. I used LKA today on I-95 from Richmond to DC and back. It would occasionally drop out for a few seconds but otherwise did a good job the entire trip by providing small steering movements to keep the car centered in the lane. I hold the wheel lightly--it steers.

    I also used the park assist function over the weekend to parallel park downtown. It slipped the car into the space quickly and perfectly. Without it, I would have looked for another spot rather than trying to get the car into the narrow space in the dark. So unlike some of the others, I'm a fan of park assist.

    It is not suppose to work that way, mine is more like what LeeB described. There is an alignment procedure for the LKA. My suggestion would be try and get a 4 wheel alignment which includes the steering angle sensor zero adjustment and an LKA camera alignment. If the dealer refuses or won't believe you have a problem call Toyota maybe they will help. Good luck.

    Good to see another PriusChat member with a PVatp in CT. I have a black PVatp from Hamden, CT. Anyway, Using LKA without DRCC in lane departure warning mode will tend to do that. you have to make sure that DRCC is enabled and youre going over 55 to get LKA to provide little inputs and assistance. Doesnt work too well on 15, but on 91 and 95, it works great.

    LKA steering assist requires you provide some input, i.e., leaving your hand on the wheel. It will bounce all over the place and eventually go out of lane if you don't. Interestingly, it will often follow a curve quite well with no hands.

    Also, there's a tendency for people (including me) to oversteer when using it, just because it's disconcerting and hard to tell if it is actually keeping a straight line. If you give it the correct minimal input and trust it a bit more, it does work.

    Personally, I think the handling and steering are good enough on the 2010 that it usually seems easier not to use steering assist. Other people who take more long trips than I have swear it does reduce their driver fatigue.

    * As is being suggested by nparker, the Prius has two Driving/Warning Modes, first is LDW (Lane Departure Warning), this is used WITHOUT DRCC, and simply warns you if/when you begin to drift over lane markings and gives you a gentle nudge and warning tones when this occurs, IT DOES NOT steer the car between the lane markings.

    Then there is LKA (Lane Keep Assist), this Mode actuaLLY gives steering input assists to maintain your Prius between the lane markings, and around gentle curves, it also, however, will give the obligatory steering nudges and warning tones if your inatentive driving permits you to begin to drift over the lane markings.

    Just remember, without DRCC turned ON, it's simply a Lane Departure Warning system, there is NO steering assist. If you don't actually steer the car, it will bounce from one side of the lane to the other, all the time beeping wildly!

    With DRCC activated, with light pressure on the wheel, it will attempt to maintain your Prius between the lane markings as near the center as possible, and again, warn if your inattention requires nudges and tones.

    One of those toyota geniuses told me that they can adjust the sensitivity of the camera, though he would be doing it blind because there's no immediate feedback. So... next time it goes in I think I will have it adjusted.
