Just need to vent...

I'm tired of being taunted by trolls no matter what I post. Most of the time they are the same ones who clutter up any Prius positive thread to the point where it's hard to find useful information any more.

Aaargh. A different 40' tree has fallen across the road the same distance up the road in the opposite direction. We've been bracketed.

I changed the genny oil today because it earned such during the last outage. It was back in storage about 100 minutes before I pulled it out to service this latest outage.

 

Your area needs better trees. These ones don't seem to have been built very well.

 

At least bears don’t fall out of them.

You joke but the power utility just spent a heap of money sending a crew up and down my road to cull the dead and weak trees to prevent exactly this. So that's already baked into our power bill.

We were down 7-8 hours this time, most of a tank of fuel. I think I would've rather left the power off and bundled up against the cold, but we have both a 2 year old and a 90 year old in the household with specific temperature requirements.

 

We do have black bears here. My crocus have been blooming for weeks now, they could be awake. One could have been in a tree when it fell.

 

I probably have the thickest skin you'd ever meet and, yet I've had to block a few butt-holes in here who have nothing constructive to offer and just seem to want to act like a 4-year old. So just block and move on!!

 

If they were made by fools like me, maybe Joyce Kilmer was right.

I shouldn't ridicule you, though. Australian trees are crap, and will fall over at the slightest breath of wind.

Where I grew up, it was always windy, and the wind always blew in the same direction. Our trees all grew at a 45-degree angle. Now those were hardy trees.

 

Maybe drop bears aren't adapted to climbing vertical trees, and that's why other regions don't have them.

 

Oh, the diagonal trees were in England.

Our trees here in Australia are very much vertical, until they're horizontal. Or ash.

 

Think you got the tree and location mixed up. The angled trees might have boggart or woodwose in them, not a drop bear.

Back to venting.
Replaced my phone a few months ago when the Pixel 2's touch screen stopped responding. Replaced with a Galaxy.

Samsung's message app kept throwing up a pop up about the group message being set to multimedia mode or somesuch, and it was right over the latest message. Some set Google's app to default, which also would let me name group message threads.

Wasn't getting notifications.

• Checked phone settings. Notifications turned on.
• Checked the app's. They are turned on.
• Check message thread details. Notifications on. Sound set to silent.

Setting an actual sound gets notifications working for that person or message group. The phone has a sound set for it, but I'm having no luck finding where to change the Google message app's global ring tone sound.

I find the skin that Samsung puts over Android to be really quite confusing. It seems to second-guess me, and offer me loads of options I don't want. I much prefer the simpler interface that you get on Oppo, Honor and Motorola phones.

 

I have a friend who a few months ago got a 2017ish (can't remember the year) Ford Escape with less than $100,000 miles on it. Then a couple months later the transmission failed completely with no previous warning signs. Mind you, they haven't even taken it out of town yet and have only driven from their home to their job and store in a town with a townwide 25mph speed limit.

It's out of warranty, but don't worry, they were quoted only $9,000 to have it fixed.

 

Florida toll collectors avert this by charging us more to build us toll by plate if they can't read our transponder. What's the best solution

 

There's at least one. Here's the climate controls on my Bolt EUV. The only thing not on a button is changing between windshield, dash, and feet for the output. But, even though those are on screen, they are large and well spaced. Super easy to use.

 

Here is another one. The HVAC control of our new Escape PHEV is all buttons. No controls on the touch screen. The buttons are not individual knobs but are large enough to control even with a mitten on my hand. But with a heated steering wheel that stays on unlike the PP I had before, I don't need to keep gloves on my hand when I get in a car. I never keep the HVAC on "AUTO"
