One thing I don't like about the Volt is the engine does not operate as pseudo-Atkinson cycle engine, like the Prius.
The little 1.4L engine has variable cam timing on both cams and of course electronic throttle control.
Why can't they throw some new engine control SW at it and make it a little more efficient when Atkinson cycle would be appropriate?
Probably another patent infringement issue... But this upgrade could be waiting in the wings...

I got 35.8 mpg driving it 500 miles home in HOLD mode, which makes it a Prius. It 'holds' the battery for later use.
That was at +5 mph posted speed limits, quite a bit of it at 81 mph indicated through OK. AC on, mid 90°'s.
My Prius would have done ~42 mpg on that trip.

Another thing is: How in the Hail did they certify a car without a mechanical Emergency Brake?
It has an electrically operated 'Park Brake'.

This is drifting off-topic Bill... perhaps more appropriate in the Buyer Remorse forum?

(I'm sure it'll grow on you)

With it indicating +250 MPG , and it feels like I'm in a Sci Fi movie when I drive it, I have the opposite of remorse. Did I mention it's way faster, sportier handling, yet more comfortable ride (somehow those go together) and quieter than,,, the most popular hybrid?

It might have double iridium spark plugs, but I might not live to see 100k of gas engine miles.
There,,, back on topic !!! ;) I'm done.....

In the past, aftermarket Bosch spark plugs are notorious for compatibility issues in a variety makes/models. Personally I would've paid the extra $15 for the OE plugs.

On our previous Civic hybrid there were 2 plugs per cylinder. The Owners Manual recommended either a Denso or NGK, both Iridium type plugs. When I had a looksee with ours I found the front bank was one brand and the back bank the other. Equal opportunity, LOL.

Denso SC 20HR iridium11 plugs are good after 100k(km) as pix . Does any one know why the white porcelain portion of the plug have brown rings around it ?

I wonder why they didn't make weight and efficiency a priority with the Volt? And why is it based on the Cruz instead of the Malibu?

Do Mercedes and other German automakers use Bosch plugs?

OEM bosch plugs is not the same thing as aftermarket bosch plugs. The worst are the +4 gimmick.
