    Whew! :D What a machine!
We just put the first tank on our spanking new 2005 Salsa Red Pkg. 4.

    Total miles 583
Gallons (original fill by Toyota) 10.2
    Calculated MPG 57.15

We live in fairly mountainous terrain in the Pacific NW (NE Wash). This tank saw several hillclimbs including 3 times over a 2800' (net) climb. The highest year round pass in our state is right next to us also at 5575 ft.

We are so impressed with it's climbing, headwind, and city perfomance.
(I cannot fathom any criticisms of the design based on road feel or crosswind performance.) IT'S AN INCREDIBLE DEVICE! But then you all knew that.

The mileage just keeps building as we learn the techniques thanks to all the great posts here on PriusChat.

We have a lot of deer around here so driving a little slower isn't so bad. Another 2005 nearby has caught 2 deer already. (a his and hers) Maybe they were in stealth mode and the deer missed their approach.

Anyway these are GREAT for rural areas. How long before you can wipe the grin off your face?

OK, 1st time I'm able to post in here !

I drive 2000 Prius Classic, an oldie but a goodie. And this is my 1st month driving a Prius, still got a bit to learn.

    Mileage : 740 km * 459 miles
    Fuel used: 40 litres * 10.5 gallons
    Efficiency: 18.5 km/l * 43.5 mpg
    Fuel Price: $1.34/litre * US$3.53 a gallon !!!

That's basically 1/2 around town driving, and one 400km open road drive. And I lurrrrv my car now !

I just wish the new Prius wasn't so expensive here in New Zealand.
    New : $45,000
    2002 : $23,000
    2000: $15,000

I wish. No sorry, thats the RRP of a 2005 Toyota Prius. There's two packages - #1 with a single cd player, or #2 a cd stacker. No dvd navigation or other fancy toys.

Here in NZ we suffer from ludicrous pricing for most things. Mind you, that's the NZ$ value. A quick check on the www shows NZ$45,000 = US$30,700 ish.

But naturally a V8 or SUV can be purchased for a much lower price.

The best thing we have is our country - fan-tastic !

    Here's one from Australia....
We got our Prius at the end of April. Done just over 4000km now, and we have averaged 4.8 - 4.9 litres/100 km in that time.
Last tank average was 4.7 litres/100 km (60 mpg).
Our fuel varies between .99 and .115 cents/litre in capital cities (more in country areas).

    Cheers from OZ.

My first post. 2005, Pkg 6, purchased in May.

I've filled the tank 3 times.

    May/June avg = 50mpg on screen (calculated to 48mpg)
    June/July avg = 49mpg on screen (calculated to 50mpg)

I hope it keeps going up. I tried a higher octane gas on the second tank with no real difference. Only have 1200 miles now. My issue is probably the fact that I only have a 10 mile commute. A good trade off - few miles driven but a bit lower mpg.

June 14 to July 27 driving.

    Tank Miles: 489.0
    Total Miles: 9665
    Tank MPG: 47.3
    Lifetime MPG: 47.98
    Avg Temp: 80s
    Price of Tank: $24.70
    Price per Gal: $2.38

This is more consistent with my previous tank.

    Month of July 2884 miles
    46.36mpg

Best tank 50.8 for 386 miles driven. I have noticed that wind and hills really change the mpg. I learning to drive more with out the cruise control and will hopefully keep moving my average mpg up.

    7/29/05: 1930 total miles
    495.6/Tank, 54.5 MPG (MFD)
2 bars remaining on Fuel Gauge
Took 8.8 gals to fill up.

Last fill up: 7/21/05; I used to have fill up twice a week with my 1994 Honda Accord (4 cylinder)

I probably could have driven farther, but not another 80 to 85 miles, which is my round trip from work to home, I buy gas near where I work because it's much cheaper than where I live: $2.49/gal for 87 octane versus $2.23/gal for same.
