Let me repeat to show the link which Maggie wrote...
    http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/31855.html
"The Most Popular Operating System in the World"

So, she is commenting about OS.

    I agree...

Johnnycat, RTFA, seriously. You ARE a troll...

Here's the first three sentences from than linuxinsider article.

It's about the frickin OS, and if you think about it for a second, it's probably true.

I can't believe you are so arrogant that you can't believe that engineering in these areas can't happen outside of the US, and POUNCE on Maggie for posting an article for you to read, and assuming that she's arguing with you.. GO YOU, JOHNNYCAT.

    RTFA. Geez.

You should order one of those "Jump to Conclusion" mats.

Did you even read the part about "ITRON survived" and "number one OS for embedded chips?"

    Ahem.

Getting back to the original subject ("Japanese engineering superior to ours"), I think trying to rate any subject by nationality is pretty useless.

However, I've decided a fair way to answer the question:

The first country to build a fully-functional, giant 50-foot robot wins.

(Extra points for cannons that pop out of the chest.)

(speculation) Because in a testosterone-driven world, competition produces more "progress", more quickly, than cooperation?

Sadly, perhaps, current research (genetic as well as biochemical) seems to point that way.
