I've had the "braking problem" since my 06 Prius! Never thought it was a problem! Question though...

http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-hybrid-news/76158-prius-brake-recall-little-more-information.html says it will not impact your fuel economy.

A few 3rd gen folks on here had/have a 2nd gen and have voiced your opinions on the behavior. It'd be nice for those folks to answer my poll at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...g-lightly-worse-3rd-gen-vs-2nd-gen-prius.html. :)

I feel the same. I had a 2000 honda insight and drove it for 3 years. It did the same thing all the time and I just chalked it up to part of a light, hybrid car with regen brakes. Those cars do it all the time when stopping on rough roads or when its slippery.

I HAVE noticed the slippery car flash the couple of times it happened in my 2010--or I seem to remember that. I have seen it a number of times on my gravelly rutted driveway for various reasons even when this particular problem wasn't happenning.

I used to get the slippery car icon a lot on my 06 and the first few times it would scare me. I hardly ever get it on the '10 -- it feels much more solid.

dave -- could you explain this in more detail. I just traded my 2005 prius for a 2010 prius. The only braking characteristic I could detect on the 2005 was the transfer from regenerative to hydraulic braking at about under 5 miles an hour. In my new 2010 prius the transfer is totally transparent and undetectable-- obviously improved over the 2005 model. Everything about the 2010 model is improved over the 2005 model

My 2005 never had any kind of braking issue whatever, but as Sidneygurley mentioned the regen/friction transition in the Gen2 was more noticeable.

My Gen3 has had the braking issue 3 times, first time was quite thrill because I didn't expect it, second time not so bad, third time barely noticeable. Now I haven't had the issue at all in at least 7K miles. I was a bit upset after the first incident but have now come to believe it's really not a problem for me. If it happens again I'm ready for it and it simply won't increase the stopping distance by much if any.

I have not had the recall done and I probably won't, I like the way the brakes feel as is. I will have it done before I sell the car however.

I Had a 2006 prius and i experienced the braking issue going over potholes or RR tracks and the light on the dash showed the car with the skid marks. Like you, I got used to it. I could not recreate it and it didnt happen that often.
The 2006 was totalled by my boyfriend so i got a 2010 in January. I am bringing in to Toyota tomorrow for the recall. I have NOT had any problems thus far in the 2010.

Just keep your boyfriend away from it and it will give you many happy motoring years. :)

Actually, sydneygurley, since you mention it, I probably did notice the braking characteristic less on the 2010 than I did on the 2005. I was probably waiting for it, expecting it to happen on the Gen III, and therefore more sensitive to the couple of times it happened.

I agree with you, the 2010 is a much better car overall than the Gen II. I love my runaway death-trap Prius. Take that, panicked US mass media!
