It's time! 100k proactive maintenance

    Woah, that’s crazy low mileage for it to fail. Hope you got it covered by Toyota because I think they carry a 100k HV battery warranty.

    So I’m noticing an oil / fuel smell coming from the engine bay. Basically smells like the OCC when you open it up. Is this normal? Upon further investigation, the smells (seems) to be coming from the engine and not the OCC can.

    I checked all my hose connections and there are absolutely no signs of leaking, and the OCC is not even half full.

    No smell of catch can spooge in our 2010;).

    Can you isolate the smell other than it’s under the hood? Does it resonate from one area? Is the catch can sealed well? Do you smell it when the car is off? When it is running? Have you noticed any difference in how the car drives since the catch can addition?

    I’d look for a leak as that would be the only way to get that smell there;).

    I also have the same problem with my OCC! The smell seems to be concentrated around the OCC housing itself. There are no leaks whatsoever. My Prius is parked in the garage with little or no air flow. Don't smell it when I drive. :unsure:

    Maybe the OCC's contents dripped on the outside of the housing when it was emptied. Gasoline is very volatile. Even a drip can fill a car with stench

    I checked and I have found no leaks whatsoever. I smell the oil / gasoline mix smell when I walk by the front of the parked car. If I open up the hood, the smell is strongest coming from near the throttle body or intake manifold area.

    The smell comes through the air vents upon first starting the car and as I drive for the first minute, then it goes away.

    I'm wondering if I didn't empty my OCC soon enough, and some mixture sloshed up into the line which connects back to the throttle body / intake manifold? It was only about 1" full, so not even half way.

    I'm also wondering if this is one downside of mounting high - it's easier for residue to make it's way back into the engine after the OCC since gravity is in it's favor.

    All of that soup used to end up in the "sump" under the throttle body. Must be one of the hoses, or an O-ring on the OCC?

    For my brass barb connection between the OCC > Throttle body, I didn't use hose clamps on either end because the brass barbs seemed super tight. Wonder if that's the issue.

    It's puzzling. Maybe @mjoo 's idea, that it's just some spillage. The system is either at atmospheric pressure, when the engine's off, or partial vacuum, when it's running. This would tend to pull stuff in, not expel it. (n)

    check the fuel line hose you used for the occ... mine were off gassing like crazy.. i recommend 30R9 gates barricade brand

    The hose that came with my OCC was also very fuel smelly, from the time I opened the box. It stank up my garage for the entire half year it sat uninstalled. I haven't noticed it since it went under the hood.

    Yeah, my hose was so stinky. I stunk up my entire garage. I still smell it when I open up my hood.

    Hopefully not "soaker" hose, lol.

    That should be fine. It was stinky though, you said? Just rubber smell, before you even installed it?

    As far as leakage, I'm thinking raise the front of the car, remove the under panel, have a good look from that perspective, with good light. Maybe something dripping. It could be a fools mission, but who knows.

    R6 is a really low grade hose..has a high Permeation .. R9 or better is what i would recommend.. check out gates Barricade.. smell your existing hose that ran to your occ .. i bet it smells like oil/gas like mine did

    Well I just checked it again today, and I was able to better trace the smell. Nothing coming from the engine area like I originally suspected. My nose lead me to the catch can, and specifically, the dipstick. It was not quite tight, and I suspect that may have been at least partially the cause. I also tightened the can seal to ensure it was tight enough.

    While I was at it, I checked the contents after my drain just two days ago...wow.. this thing is catching a lot. Another generous teaspoon already in the can. (y)
