What's right isn't always popular; what's popular isn't always right. There is nothing in the US constitution that allows the federal government to get involved in local regulation of abortion, period. I don't care if it's a good idea or not, it's unauthorized by the constitution. There is nothing in the US constitution that allows the federal government to regulate public schools. It isn't there. The entire Rural Electrification Administration, now part of the agriculture department, was completely unconstitutional. The US government is unauthorized to perform most of the functions into which it has inserted itself these days. And it doesn't matter how many people in a poll say it should be otherwise unless their representatives at the state or federal level take action to change the constitution.

FWIW, when I first heard about the sewage plant name it was funny for about a nanosecond and then just struck me as more misspent energy. There is serious work to do in our country. Also, I'm sad that between BC and GWB my kids have grown up thinking their the president is either a slut or a buffoon.

I want some dignity back. For all of us.

Abortion. Another delicious topic. Who knew threads about sewage plants and NRA stickers could be so much fun.

It figures that something like this would happen in California... "The land of fruits and nuts"!

I agree completely with you, that what is popular is not always right. The tyranny of the majority can be very oppressive! I don't agree that all the items you mention are patently unconstitutional however.

Well no posts on this thread for quite some time! I want all you democrats to know how absolutly delighted I am that Obama has won the Presidency! Now I can watch you defend all the dumb and damaging things he will do in the next 4 years. Or do you think everything will be fixed now?

For the record, San Francisco voters turned down this proposal. Bush couldn't even get his name on a sewage treatment plant in SF.

Fixed? You mean Bush may have done something that needs fixing?

Nothing that happens in the next 8 years will equal the damage of the last 8 years. Defend that.

That's a pretty tall order. But at least Obama has a few clues. Most of his appointees seem like they actually know something about their responsibilities. That's a good start.

We shall see what Mr Obama does. So far he's appointed all the old political hacks of the Clinton era. At least the ones that aren't in prison yet...Change? One thing I know...anything bad that happens after January 20th will be O's fault!!!

    Hi Yak18,

Chenney made a comment that he would be proud to serve with the cabinet that Obama and his team have selected. That seems to be about as non-partison an endorsement as possible.

Funny how Clinton was blamed for whatever happened after Jan. 20, 2000. And after Jan. 20 2008, it will all be Obama's fault. Oh, wait. It's an R thing. Too bad there isn't a 12 step program for that. Isn't one of the first steps, accepting responsibility? I think saying you're sorry and asking forgiveness is in there somewhere too.

The part about acknowledging a power greater than himself would be easy for Bush: he already knows Dick Cheney.

I assume by R you mean Republican...

Republicans are shameless d**ks. No, that’s not fair. Republican politicians are shameless d**ks.

Al Franken -- The Truth (With Jokes) p. 58

    and for your reference...

    1. We admitted we were powerless over "money"* - that our lives had become unmanageable.

    8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

    9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
