the charts are great, but only you can determine if conditions are similar. i do the same drive almost every day, and get the same amount of ev miles except for extreme climate changes, mostly temperature or precipitation.
Hello. I am new prime advanced owner as of 4/27/2018! 2017 model year. After a couple days of mixed driving, decided to deplete my battery completely for the first time and check out range in EV mode. Started at 100% with 23.2 miles of electric range onscreen. I work approx 38 miles from home and knew it wouldn’t reach there, but impressed I got to 30 miles before the engine kicked in. BTW I could have gotten a bit more if not for a steep hill I had to climb on the last leg of the trip! Very happy so far!
Wow that is an impressive spreadsheet, you have far more patience then I would ever have with your data. Thanks for posting. I'm going to look at my data a little more carefully this summer but more just for fun then anything else. I did a simple test yesterday by driving my commute in EV mode without a care for range and as expected my estimate this morning was lower. I'm not sure if its a day to day thing and/or averaged over time but the software has to be leaning heavily on driving style.
The problem with PRIME is that there really isn't an easy way to record ACTUAL EV miles the car run on EV mode to depletion of battery capacity. The car logs EV ratio, but it includes EV driving while running on HV mode, so if you drive beyond EV range, the number is not accurate. Similarly, if you switch back and force between EV and HV while you have EV range left, then you have no idea how far your EV mode run was. I recorded those data over span of three month last summer to fall before it got really cold. My conclusion is that there is definitely variation in ACTUAL EV range day to day despite I was very careful about driving similarly.
Yes, that's exactly what I did. The problem is the engine could fire up in a middle of busy intersection. I have to make mental note of what the trip meter reading from the start was then write it down on a piece of paper so I don't forget it when I get home.
One can never be sure when the ICE and, is it really running or freeing or getting rid of unwanted extra energy?
Well, I used visual que of EV range display approaching to 0 mile and EV mode light shutting off, so I am pretty sure that was when EV range ended and ICE kicked in for HV mode.
I use EV Auto on the highway--then switch back to EV (only) when I get off the highway. The engine runs a little, but I save the EV for slower, stop and go driving. I have not calculated it, but it seems to increase the overall MPG.
I would think any time it's running no? Haven't run into this yet so I can't say from experience. You will find many PC users switch to HV mode on the highways to conserve EV range. I myself haven't tried EV Auto on highways for fear it would still run down the EV range to depletion, I'll have to give it a shot sometime.
This seems like one of the problems presented in the movie Apollo 13, where they had to conduct the startup sequence to conserve the batteries!
