Is there any way to get the display to show amperage?

Interesting that you ask that. The display I'm using as "primary" at the moment shows rpm, coolant temp, mpg, and charge.

I think I understand clearly now why Toyota did NOT include a tach in the Prius (or the other HSD cars). The rpm response is just too bizarre for people conditioned to see the rpms of either a manual or normal multi-cog automatic. In short, it fluctuates a lot, depending it seems, upon how much of the driving is being done by the ICE and how much by the two MGs. I don't tend to do 65 very often when I'm on the highway (I drive a lot, and usually prefer to trade some gas for some time). I just finished driving from Pensacola (home) to New Orleans (work), which is just over 200 miles. I ran at 80 mph most of the time, and saw "steady" readings from just under 2000 to as high as 2700. Going for a pass will quickly run the ICE up to its ECU limit of 5k (actually, it usually shows ~4950 tops). When you get off the gas at speed, and the display changes from "ICERun" to "ICESpin" (in the box that says "Stealth" above) the rpms drop to and hover around 1k.

Short, subjective answer: lower than you'd probably expect in most cases.
