Is the Gen 4 Prius better than the Gen 3 Prius?

That could give Gen 4 a serviceability advantage though. Gen 1's cluster hood could be popped out with your fingers and the cluster itself replaced by taking out 4 screws if you needed to.

To access Gen 3's instrument cluster, entire upper dash must come off. (...which isn't really quite as bad as it sounds, but the mouse-fur front pillar covers aren't the easiest to deal with....)

If it's easy again in Gen 4, so much the better.

We both have the Prius, 09 and the 12.. Both are a good, but I like the 09 very much.

 

I owned a 2011, 2014, and now a2016 Prius 2. I actually liked the gen 3 models a lot, but prefer the gen 4, which is how it should be. Again, the one thing I would change about the gen 4 Prius are the taillights...yuck! They work, but I don't like that Z look. I like the Prius Prime taillights so much more. My fuel average for the past 4 months is 58.6 mpgs, and that pleases me. It is truly an almost perfect car...except for those rear lights.

 

"All Things Considered", I like the ride, fuel efficiency, handling, and "bigger car feel" of the Gen 4. But, I lost 30% of my valued front cabin storage (upper glove box, and subdash storage tray) moving from a 2013 Prius III. I miss the solar powered ventilation, the sunroof, and the deep below-deck storage in back. I carry around a shoe box full of "crapola" I need, but I have no place to put it! Whining about storage lost.... And finally; I do not have a very big butt, but I find the driver's seat in the Gen 4 Prius less confortable than the Gen 3. High class problems, eh?

Thanks for this thread all. Helped me decide on a buying decision. I was/am looking at a 2015, gen 4. $13K from a dealer.

 

I never really looked at the Gen 3 but coming from a Gen 2 to a Gen 4 four, the difference is day and night.
My Gen 2 was the best car I ever owned so the new one has big shoes to fill.
I didn't realize how little I knew about the inner workings of my Gen 2, it just ran.

 

I loved my gen 2. Gen 3, 2010 was OK but no great love. Less room and this particular one, less MPG.

Really hoping to be wowed by the 4. The 2010 was my second favorite car of all time and just barley behind the gen 2. So even not great for a Prius, for me. Is still leaps and bounds over the other cars I've owned.

WIKI says "Japan in December 2015. The launch in North American market occurred in January 2016, and February in Europe". Australian stocks didn't start arriving till June 2016.

 

That's my cunfused-ed Alan. Found a few 2015s billed as Prius 4. Am I just missing that that's not the designation? The features seem to be correct.

Looked up the VIN of one and report, reported it "Prius 4"

 

Could that be a "Trim Designation" as opposed to "Gen. Designation"??

 

Prius 4 does not equal Gen 4 Prius. My 2017 is a Gen 4 Prius but it is a Prius 2.

My 2016 Prius is a Gen 4 and the trim level is spelled out "four".

 

The US brochure spells out the numbers, fwiw:

 

Toyota, apparently. And, according to the screenshot, you need to SHOUT the numbers,
ONE, TWO, TWO ECO, THREE, THREE Touring, FOUR, FOUR Touring. <sigh>
