I can't say if I'm able to do a combustion engine analysis myself with my current apps. I know it looks like there is a lot of important engine parameters to monitor in my EngineLink app. Unfortunately it also seem they can't be recorded during driving in any convenient way. That means it's hard for me to do some conclusions about the state of the engine. Some of the parameters are neither presented in a correct resolution, looks like some of them are either uncalibrated or incorrectly calculated.

I will continue to monitor my Gen 2 issues, but the idea of buying a Gen 4 looks like it will have to go on hold for a while. I thought we might try to pick one up around March 2016. However we seem to have hit a period of unexpected expenses that will cause us to stretch out our plans.

In the past month or so we've had to replace our, kitchen faucet, dishwasher (17 years old), clothes dryer (14 years old), and a surprise replacement of all four tires on both of our cars. This week our DVD player had to be replaced. Those were unexpected expenses. Little did we know those would come up back in August when we spent about $5K on a leather couch and love seat, and a new glider/bench for the back yard. My son moved out so we repainted his room and turned it into a guest room which involved buying a queen bed and bed linens. The guest room will no doubt require some more spending. Back at the beginning of August we had to replace our 20 year old cordless phone system with a new one. It just seems like we've sprung a leak in our portfolio.

I guess the good news is we may hold off long enough on buying a new car that Toyota will deliver on the next PIP or "v" The PIP won't likely have a spare tire so we'll scratch it off our list which is too bad. So we will take a look at the "v". If we wait until later in 2016 we may see reduced prices or sales.

Hopefully our Gen 2 will hold out and we won't run into building expenses as it ages.

This could be it. Seriously though you could have a hung caliper putting pressure on the inside rotor surface. Try what Patrick said.

Here's what I've done along the lines of dragging brakes. I have one of those neat inexpensive laser temperature gauges (pretty fun and handy tool). Several times after driving for 10 miles or more I quickly exited the car and checked the temperature of the disks and calipers. They were all relatively cool.
