Is it worth it?

In 2006, I found a used 2004 Prius for sale with 13,000 miles on it. Cost? $21k. And believe me, we haggled. So the resale value on a used Prius is definitely quite higher than other non-hybrids.

Be careful with 2004s thought. Since it was the first year of the 2nd generation, I have had to have numerous things fixed on it (and a lot of the TSB's are for the 2004 model). However, I would never ever give it up. When my husband is spending $50 at the gas pump for his Subaru, I'm spending $28 to fill mine up for the week.

I am currently on the waiting list for a Prius at the Sunnyvale dealership (12 weeks). The sales manager there informed me that Toyota doesn't ship package #3 to Northern California (which is the package I originally wanted).


On a side note, for anyone who is interested in the future of oil, may I recommend "The Shell Game" by Steve Alten. I've never seen any author blend fiction with non-fiction better than this author. What's even better is he actually lists sources for about 20 pages in the end of the novel so the reader can see exactly what parts of the book were, in fact, non-fiction.

 

Would your GOP's real leader R.L. really approve of you buying a Prius. My goodness there must be a thoughtful side to you but be careful you wouldn't want to become a whacko liberal. I know we shouldn't be too hard on those nice oil company executives that are taking in record profits during a national gas crisis,,,I guess we have to weigh to how important their profits are in relation to the rest of the economy that is raked over the coals. It might be wiser money spent looking for alternatives to fossil fuels. BTW, I think there are as many liberal cowards as there are conservatives..the conservatives just have a more arrogant tone to them...thank you Rush...have another pill..

 

Let's say what you're saving on gas in the Prius is exactly offset by the higher cost, so that the Prius and the Matrix are exactly equal in out-of-pocket cost. The difference you should consider is that with the Prius, that extra cost is going into the value of the vehicle, which means a nicer vehicle and it's worth more on resale. With the Matrix, it's going into gas, which you're just going to burn then it's lost to you forever.
