i try to wave to other Prius owners but usually get blank stares (or the finger...)

today, however, i "met" two other very friendly owners! one flashed his brights as he came up behind then pulled alongside to wave and give a thumbs up on the car (one point for Team Driftwood) and the other was a family that pulled up next to me at a stop light. we rolled down our windows and exchanged what year and options we had as well as gas mileage. (two points for Team White for talking about the car and not just waving!)

i love it when other drivers are friendly, it really helps make the sometimes stressfuls roads a little more enjoyable!

Don't quit. It's called being friendly. What is our society coming to where a wave gets you a strange look, but flipping someone off is a more common occurance.

In South O.C. of So. Cal? You'd get indignant looks. In Kalispell MT? You don't need a Prius - "hey we got the same car thing goin' " type excuse to wave. Lots of folks on the back roads still wave just to be friendly.

The whole thing seems creepy to me. Bunch of weirdos waving for no reason, why not wave to every car you pass? Are you in a parade? I don't see anything wrong with it, it's just weird. If it makes you happy do it.

Yesterday while driving on NY RT 17 I came into a work area.
We had to merge into the right lane. We did the usual everyother car .
When my turn came up, I WAS CUT OFF MY ANOTHER PRIUS OWNER!!
Needless to say, I DID NOT WAVE.

I started the Prius wave in this area and have also gotten mixed reactions. I hade a Jeep for many years and did the Jeep wave, also with mixed reactions so I'm used to it. It would be neat to start a fad though. It's nice to acknowledge others who are like minded!

I don't wave at other Prius drivers, because I know I am the only one who is not a tree hugging liberal Democrat cabon offset snob. :<) I'm kidding!!

I would like to wave, but I am too shy of people thinking I am weird, or giving me the Wth look, so I am waving inside my subconcious mind.

I got a "thumbs up" from another Prius driver on a recent trip to Austin, but that's been about it for me even though I see them frequently where I live. Pity, when I had a Jeep some years back it was usual custom and practice to wave.

I agree. It never occurred to me to wave at anyone while driving. If they are waving at me, I'm not paying attention.

My prius is red, so by law I have to cut off other prius drivers, otherwise they wouldn't know my prius was faster then theirs! I belive in the pulse and pulse driving technique.

Waving doesn't seem to work in Scottsdale. Perhaps because it requires a free hand that doesn't have a cell phone, eye make-up kit or electric shaver in it.

Same issue here in Austin. People here actually buy them to save money on gas (Sigh) rather than just for the emissions. A lot of the new folks don't get the wave. But they are too common. The people with 04's-06's generally wave. Other touring drivers nod. The people with classics still wave and shoot a deserved "eco-poseur" look/scowl in my direction.

They probably had a good glide going, and they figured you'd understand.

So, this raises an interesting question -
2 Prii come to the same intersection and they both have good glides going - who has the right of way?

I am stunned at the number of Pri owners who don't even look around! It's hard to wave at someone when they don't look at you!

No more tunnel vision! Look around at the surroundings and the rest of the traffic.

A few years ago, with wife and kids I'd say "Let's play the Wave game".
I'll tell you which car it is and when I say "Wave", hit em will all you got.

So we'd crest some hill with a oncoming car full of people and exactly when they first look at you, BLAM... suddently everyone energetically waves at them.
The sudden look of "HUH?" on their face and frozen reactions are hilarious. We'd all laugh for half a mile or more.
(for the more somber people reading this, in 8 years of doing this nobody ever lost control of their car, the reaction is mostly stiffness, ..and don't ever play this game on curves).

The best fun comes when they are quick thinking and can return a fast wave back, that really cracks up my car. At times we had people wise to our games, and would wave before we could, which would send all us of laughing and wondering if we knew the folks.

Another fun "road" game, is called "glasses". I pick a random oncoming car by calling out it's color (Red car) or saying "next car" only as it's almost ready to pass us, while everyone in the car is supposed to yell out "Glasses" if they think the driver is wearing glasses and "NO" if they think the driver is not wearing glasses.
So many mistakes makes for hilarious laughter, some people say Glasses while others say NO, when after some time nobody can tell anything about the driver. Loads of harmless fun.

My family loves the wave game too. We also play another game. It started a few years back when I was coaching Club Volleyball. We would get all these kids in cars and have to drive for hours to play in tournaments. One day, we have a young lady who was very quite most of the time and she told us about the cow game. When you are driving by a field with cows in it, you have to mooooww or whatever you want to do out the window to get the cows in the fields attention. The person who can make the most cow's heads turn wins. We were like yeah right that can't work. So we all are laughing and trying to yell at cows with stupid mooow yells, and dog barks and such, when the young girl who started the game takes her turn..she let out the biggest, most extreme moooww we have ever heard and it seemed like every cow in the field turned their head to look. Your post reminded me of the funny games and that awesome moow and I am cracking up again thinking about it. Thanks!
