Is GM completely off its rocker?

    I fully believe that the Volt will soon be a reality.

    That being said, I think GM is waaaaaaaaay off the mark with using it for advertisements already.

    Even if you take the Volt cheerleaders' best case scenarios, it still won't show up until (presumably late) 2009, which I don't consider "soon".

    Throw some reality in there, and the only way you can use the word "soon" is by prefacing it with the words "not anytime".

    Personally, I believe you can do the above and then just leave out the word "soon".

    "Soon" is a relative term. Speaking of a proper electric or PHEV car, for me, "soon" means yesterday. For Godiva, who plans on driving her Prius for ten years, 2009 probably is "soon." And if the Volt turns out to be the first affordable PHEV to market (which I doubt will happen) then its supporters will argue it's "soon."

    I agree with Stev0. But it is a matter of perspective.
