Where does it say the answer is to jet thousands of politicians/scintists around the world every year to talk about how a giant ponzi scheme can be setup to make us all feel better about this phantom problem? The more I read about what is actually going on in Copenhagen the more the is all just one GIANT sham!

Every year is predicted to be a warming year :) When they are wrong, they simply write it off to some natural cause.

Showing the temperature decline from 1934-1980, and from 2001/2-2010 is not cherrypicking data any more than showing a rise in temperature from 1850-2010 is. Why don't you trend out the temperature from AD 850 - 2010? Why not trend it out the temperature from BCE 1000000 - AD 2010? The point is to show the *trend*, and the fact is the trend shows cooling/decrease in warming over the last 8-9 years. Being that solar output *is* at a minimum, I predict another year in the cooling trend.

No. Having science that is solid, open to the public, open to criticism, and not playing up to alarmists will change my mind.

For your next few questions: This is the last time I'm doing this. Everything I'm writing is already in this thread, half of it will be copy-pasted. If you refuse to read the thread that's fine. But it's not fair to come in and ask the same old questions and expect me to answer them.

For one, a huge increase in solar activity, after coming out of the Maunder Minimum.

Sure. So go do some research. Read chapters 2 and 9 of the IPCC report to see what they say about solar irradiance since the Maunder Minimum.

    http://www.mps.mpg.de/homes/natalie/PAPERS/asr2004.pdf

    http://cc.oulu.fi/~usoskin/personal/Sola2-PRL_published.pdf

(BTW - I loved this hockeystock graph of sunspots)

What keeps me unconvinced is the unreliability of the temperature record. Every day we keep seeing more and more evidence that shows the surface stations that record temperatures are completely screwed. If data is even off a half degree C then the whole of global warming is thrown out the window.

You will regret asking this :)

Below we see a graph of solar activity since 1930. We can see the decline at the end.

Let's zoom in on the decline:

We can clearly see that the solar activity decline started in this decade. (If you want to have fun, consider that this decade is having a cooling trend :) )

Below is a copy and paste, to drive home the point:

    Also consider these:

And (the next image has a reverse x axis)

These graphs all show an increase in the number of sunspots since the LIA. These coincide with the steady increase in temperature since the LIA.

My point is that we if we contribute natural factors to the cooling of the earth, we must contribute natural factors to the warming of the earth. No, this does not rule out CO2 as a contributor, but it shows that CO2 is not the only reason we have increasing temperatures.

    - end of copypaste

Combine this data with the papers above (actually just read the papers above, they have all of this data in them.) I sincerely hope you do not still believe that the earth would have gone on cooling if the industrial revolution had not started. I'm pretty sure you are alone in the world with that belief.

I agree that CO2 is a GHG, and I agree that GHGs help warm our planet. What I do not agree with is the amount of warming they are attributing to human produced GHGs. I do not agree with the notoriously poor models that predict solar irradiance could only account for a small part of our current warming (last 30 years), as opposed to GHGs being responsible for the majority of it. And I do not agree with the temperature record, for reasons stated above.

And *LOL* this has nothing to do with my political affiliations!

Don't bother replying to priushippie. He comes in on occasion and tries to crap up the thread by posting a bunch of non-related mess. Hopefully he gets IP banned this time.

If it is as bad as Al Gore says, there is only one answer and that is mass population control and the banning of all CO's release tomorrow. Since that is not going to happen what do you think Copenhagen is about?

What is the harm in cleaning up the environment? Is it some kind of sin? Regardless of your political idealisms what is the harm in clean air. After all Nixon was president when the clean air and water acts were put into law. This isn't a liberal only idea. It is pure and simple science.

Natural gas burns quite cleanly and we have an extensive "home-grown" supply. Nuclear produces no emissions and should be broadly and quickly expanded. Hydro-electric and geothermal are also clean. Solar will be good if it can be made more cost-effective. Existing coal-fired plants can be improved with the use of scrubbers. Conservation and efficiency improvement is always good.

Investing money in all of these technologies makes sense.

I applaud you for at least photoshopping the words "climate change" on someone else's material. At least part of your post was not unoriginal :)

Yes Alric - you need to read a little bit more. This is a re-posting since you apparently didn't read it the first time.

Here, Gerald Browning, an atmospheric scientists from CIRA descibes fundamental flaws with climate models:

The updating discussed above is not possible in a climate model and because climate models use even a coarser mesh than a large-scale weather prediction model, they must use an effectively larger viscosity than a global weather prediction model. Recently (BAMS, 2004), it has been shown that a climate model also deviates from reality in a matter of hours because of the errors in the parameterizations (not unexpected based on result above) and over longer periods of time the effectively larger viscosity causes the numerical solution to produce a spectrum quite different than the real atmosphere unless forced in a nonphysical manner.

If you believe the fundamental workings of the climate system are fully (or even mostly) understood and solved, you are completely wrong my friend.

I don't think Alric has ever read a full scientific paper in his life :)

And now from the EPA more scientific evidence of global warming and the correlation with human activity.

Temperatures are changing in the lower atmosphere - from the Earth’s surface all the way through the stratosphere (9-14 miles above the Earth’s surface). Scientists are working to document temperature trends and determine their causes.

    United States Surface Temperature Trends

Observations compiled by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center indicate that over the past century, temperatures rose across the contiguous United States at an average rate of 0.11°F per decade (1.1°F per century). Average temperatures rose at an increased rate of 0.56°F per decade from 1979 to 2005. The most recent eight-, nine-, and ten-year periods were the warmest on record.
Warming occurred throughout most of the U.S., with all but three of the eleven climate regions showing an increase of more than 1°F since 1901. The greatest temperature increase occurred in Alaska (3.3°F per century). The Southeast experienced a very slight cooling trend over the entire period (-0.04°F per century), but shows warming since 1979.

Records from land stations and ships indicate that the global mean surface temperature warmed by about 0.9°F since 1880 (see Figure 1). These records indicate a near level trend in temperatures from 1880 to about 1910, a rise to 1945, a slight decline to about 1975, and a rise to present (NRC, 2006). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded in 2007 that warming of the climate system is now “unequivocal,” based on observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level (IPCC, 2007).
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) 2008 State of the Climate Report and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) 2008 Surface Temperature Analysis:
    • Since the mid 1970s, the average surface temperature has warmed about 1°F.
    • The Earth’s surface is currently warming at a rate of about 0.29ºF/decade or 2.9°F/century.
    • The eight warmest years on record (since 1880) have all occurred since 2001, with the warmest year being 2005.
    Additionally (from IPCC, 2007):
    • The warming trend is seen in both daily maximum and minimum temperatures, with minimum temperatures increasing at a faster rate than maximum temperatures.
    • Land areas have tended to warm faster than ocean areas and the winter months have warmed faster than summer months.
    • Widespread reductions in the number of days below freezing occurred during the latter half of the 20th century in the United States as well as most land areas of the Northern Hemisphere and areas of the Southern Hemisphere.
    • Average temperatures in the Arctic have increased at almost twice the global rate in the past 100 years.
The IPCC has concluded that most of the observed warming in global average surface temperature that has occurred since the mid-20th century is very likely a result of human activities (IPCC, 2007). During the first half of the last century, there was likely less human impact on the observed warming, and natural variations, such as changes in the amount of radiation received from the
