Is a timing cover covered by a power train warranty?

Fun is not a word I would use to characterize an undertaking such as pulling the engine. That having been said, I think that dealers/repair facilities take advantage of people that need work such as this done by using the “book time” when writing repair estimates versus calculating the “actual time” used to perform the repair. Sometimes those figures are dramatically different.

 

Unless it's 1970's or earlier VW, pulling an engine isn't fun, fast, or easy.

Most repair shops, not just dealers, use a flat rate book.
They bill the job by that. Cost depends on hourly labor rate.
There are a LOT of not so honest shops. Usually dealership hourly rates are higher.
I was fired from 2 different dealerships because I wouldn't lie to customers, or Mercedes about the
work I've done on the cars.
Within a year, the first shop fired the service manager for doing just that!
At the 2nd place, the shop foreman quit, to keep from being fired, most likely.

It never pays to be dishonest! You will reap what you sow. Later than you reap, and more than you sow!
