Investigating Autopilot

Differences in reporting rates throw a big monkeywrench into this. Tesla seems to have an automatic incident reporting system that the others don't, so the others could be seriously under-reporting their crashes, causing a selection bias. We don't yet have a good handle on this issue.

The increased numbers within a given manufacturer should be much less prone to such bias.

 

I don’t know the specifics. However, if FSD/Autopilot experience a situation it isn’t able to handle, it will give audible and visual warnings and disengage a few moments later.
This can be blinded sensors, oddball situations, etc.
I have had it happen twice since AP/FSD was available (5 or 6 years?).

I don’t know that this is what happened, but is one possibility.
