Thanks, F8L. I'm now just checking to see whether I'm better off getting the Primacys at Sam's or Discount Tire. Both are going to offer the $70 debit card. I'm considering adding the TPMS "service" which consists of replacing about $4.50 of parts on each wheel.

It is still amazing to me the Toyos have lasted this long (I'm at 59,866 and having a 60,000 mile service right now). I'm certain it has to do with running them at pressures varying from the low-40s to the high-40s psi.

Discount Tire just ended their Michelin rebate but if ordered today they will still honor it. That is how it worked at America's Tire anyway.

Tire wear can be drastically reduce by using proper tire pressure as well as low speed easy driving. Cornering hard will really wear down your tires as will really high speeds, hard acceleration or lots of turning. :)

Looks like I'll need to put an order in today!
Interestingly, I've just been told I need an alignment due to uneven wearing on the inner side of the front tires. Of course, I'm not going to do an alignment until I have new tires on the car.

Is there a reason why you didn't try the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus in the 205/50 17?

You cannot go wrong with Michelin.

The springs are sitting next to a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada Tumbler and my fully-charged IR W7150 gun...

Interesting! My dealership is going to have a tire sale next month -- buy three get one free. They have the Primacys in stock and they will be part of the deal. I can't see a better deal than this on the horizon. I'll get a full quote and then shop it around.

The Turanza Serenity seems like it will be a great tire but not the most fuel efficient It is also VERY heavy like the AVId Ascend. It is approx. 4lbs heavier per tire than the MXM4 and it is an XL rated tire with a higher Load Index. I am trying to stick with a comfortable tire so I am excluding XL tires. My current tires are actually pretty darn nice if they were not so rough. They stick HARD in corners. ;)

That sounds like the way to go assuming they don't charge an arm and a leg for each tire. I would find out the price of each tire before committing. Some places jack up the price such that it winds up not being such a hot deal. It's worth checking though.

Who'd fly around corners in a Prius

I'm very surprised that the MXM4's stick so well. I have done many 30 something mph right & left turns with no tire complaints :)

It looks like the price is $174/tire. So for four tires on the sale it would be $523 (not including installation, taxes, disposal fee, etc.), based on 3 tires at $174 and one at $1. The other charges come out to $98, and tax will be about $41, so I think the final out-the-door price is going to be about $662. That is almost $90 better than Discount Tire.

That's a great price. It's only $50 more than I paid for my first set when they came out. They were only $130 or so back then!

FWIW I drove the car a lot harder today and these PureContact tires are pretty impressive. At 36/34psi they are not SUPER rough but they are rougher/louder than I am looking for right now. They are a very solid tire with a lot of traction. I almost think they corner better than the MXM4. For a more refined feel I'm still going to recommend the MXM4 though. :)

I swapped tires from the 205/50/17 PureContact 93V XL to the 215/45/17 Primacy MXM4 87V. I wanted a smoother ride and while it is a tad smoother it is not quite the difference I was hoping for. I think I was spoiled by the soft ride of the 15" Energy Saver A/S for so long that I forgot what 17s felt like. Now I have a larger wheel well gap and I'm not to happy about that. I almost wish I had stuck with the PureContact just for the looks. :( I'll give it some time before I make a final judgement. The PureContacts seem to get a little softer as they broke in and I know the MXM4 will do the same. Either way I have a great tire so that is good. I just have no choice but to use lowering springs now.

Tyler gives the Plus Perf package a thumbs up :) Go get Mike's springs and throw in a rear swaybar for an added gift to yourself and call it a happy day.
