Income spread

Nope. Very far from it. But I am rich. I paid cash for my car. And I took a luxury hiking trip to NZ and Australia. And if I was married I could buy my wife a Prius without giving it any thought.

When my income was $5,000 per year I was able to get by, just barely, but I had no debts and never missed a meal. When my income was $20,000 per year I thought I was very rich because after basic expenses I had $5,000 to spend on any frivolous thing I wanted, such as a treadmill for jogging, a riding lawnmower, and a computer. I was embarrassed to tell my friends my income because when I saw how they complained about making ends meet, I thought I must be much richer than they were. Now I have considerably more than that, and I know I'm wealthier than most of my friends.

But for what it's worth, my sister has the same income as I do and she thinks it's not enough, because she thinks she "needs" a second home. And she insists on living where house prices are 3 times what I paid, for 3/4 the square footage. (But she saves money on tobacco because where she lives the air is so filthy you don't neet to smoke. )

As for millionaire Prius drivers, I'm sure there are lots. When the best car on the road is not the most expensive, a millionaire does not have to buy the most expensive, he can buy the best instead. And that's a Prius, in my opinion.

But a million-per-year posting here on little old Prius Chat, for some reason that idea surprised me.

who cares? i'll put it out there. i'm a student, my husband is still investing in his career, neither of us has hit 30 years of age yet... we're far from rich in money. so what? would you like me more or less because of my income? if you would, i wouldn't associate with you anyway.

You are rich because you wont for nothing. That has at best a loose correlation with net worth or annual income.

For me, it is a bit more complicated. I wish I had enough money to buy a state, but sadly do not. The other trappings of capitalism hold little attraction, outside of one Prius, three Macintoshs, and one home. I own those outright, so in the meantime money accumulates, waiting for someting worthwhile to spend it on.

Correction: I used to be rich because I wonted for nothing. Now I am rich because I have a bucketfull of money. (Though not as much as squid supposed.) I don't know what I'd do with a state. And, no, I'm not the sort of deranged nut case who leaves money to pets. Mine gets divided up among a bunch of friends and relatives. But my goal is to spend it all and die broke. Having a girlfriend would help in that regard. But I'm still looking.
