Impossible to find tires for my Prius XLE AWD

Maybe not as common in your market, but a 225/55/17 was used by USDM Subaru Outbacks and Crosstreks for many years.

 

If this is major concern, you can literally buy a 16" alloy from any 5x114.3 bolt pattern Toyota, put a whatever tire on it, store it in your basement or shed, and be a stop gap. You wouldn't even need to wait 5 days.

 

I was lucky enough to have two flats in the same week on my SE, also in Connecticut. My local shop patched them up. I quickly ordered a set of winter tires from Tire Rack (which I meant to do before winter anyways), so now I have a way to get on the road if an unfixable flat happens.

By the way, my local garage could order the 17” Toyos within 1 or 2 business days.

 

16” was reported here to be dicey: clearance from caliper was so little they had to shift hidden weights over a bit.

 

The winter set I bought was 16s from TireRack (with Blizzaks) and they fit fine. I’ve driven a few hundred miles with them no problem.

 

A very common size. I'm going to run those on new 17's from TireRack

 

Never the less, it's shaving it pretty close. A kicked-up pebble or whatever may close the gap. It's a 1/2" less on the radius than the smaller spec'd wheel size. Your rims are "fine"; others were a little too close, with caliper brushing the wheel weights first time 'round.

 

I got some Tirerack Chinese special 16s too, they look super dinky but it works. Is it tight up front? You bet it. I probably can't fit more than a few sheets of paper for clearance.

 

But it didn't always. That's the native size for our Mazda 6. When we bought that car, that size was only available from Falken, and there was a waiting list.

You can see that it eventually got better.

I'll be honest, I like that look and it probably rides better than the factory 19s. Or would, with good rubber anyway.

 

I can't deny they look pretty decent for being a cheapie set. Like many here, the 19s will likely retire once the OEM tires are done, probably trade-in fodder someday. I'll look for a better quality set of 16s for 3 season use.

 

What recall is causing this? thanks

 

It's a Safety Recall 24TA06. The rear doors may open while driving if they are not locked. Someone discovered that high pressure water can can enter and short circuit the electronic rear door latches. Advice is to have the doors auto lock when shifted into Drive.

It should show up on the Toyota app under the Health tab.

I ended up buying 4 snow tires just so I could drive my car again. The sidewall busted out again (pothole) on the new tire, and tire rack covered the cost.

I still have my 3 stock tires, and will put them back on once I can get a fourth Michelin Primacy. I live in an area that snows, so I'll keep the snow tires for next winter.
