Welcome to the Prius family. I just sold my 2012 Prius c to a family member and purchased a new Prius liftback. You have made a great choice and will definitely enjoy driving the c as it is a terrific car. Oddly enough I live in a city that is not flat and discovered that my mpg was higher on the freeway than in town which is the opposite of what one would expect. I also discovered that I had higher mpg when I did not drive in eco mode. Strange indeed. So you should experiment with driving modes and see what works best for you. Just remember not to floor it when you hit the gas pedal just go nice and easy and give yourself time to brake. Have fun with it and the color is a great choice. From my limited experience (almost 2 whole weeks!), I can say that the C seems to be at home on the highway or the city streets. I'm getting better mileage in town, but I took her on a 200km roadtrip the second day I had my 2012 C, and where I would've spent an easy $50 in my old car, I struggled to put $30 in the tank when I returned. On the way up, there's a section of highway that's 120km/h (~75-76mph), and she did just fine. Handled well, minimal road noise. I think you made the right choice, but ultimately it's up to you.
I get better mileage on the highway than city. Just stay in the right lane, keep the top speed in the 60s, take advantage of hills and slow traffic.
I've driven to work and back twice now (about 80 miles each way) and have been getting about 48mpg. The speed on the turnpike is 75mph so I've been setting the cruise on 75 and staying in the right lane.
I know that turnpike (assuming you're talking about I-35 Kansas turnpike)...we live in Dallas and have family in Wichita. I have a 2012 regular prius and I bet it wouldn't do better than 48 mpg at 75 mph. We always are in the odyssey for family trips and it gets just over 25 mpg on that stretch. We only drive about 20 miles or so on it. I bet those tolls are more money than your gas now
I'm driving I-70 between Kansas City and Topeka. With the KTag the toll is 2.40 each way. So 4.80 for tolls at today's gas price of $1.98 I'm spending about $6.18 on gas per day. I was commuting in a 2009 Camry and I think I was getting about 22mpg but I was driving faster too. With the Prius I've been trying to maximize fuel without getting run off the road but in the Camry I would alwa
I will tell you that in Dallas a toll wouldn't be $2.40 for 40 miles haha. That's not too bad. But I bet you will like getting gas in the C. Not many of those I have seen up there
I used to live in Wichita and would do the drive to Kansas City and back on occasion. In the 2010 Prius II by my avatar I would get about 44 mpg. Around town in Wichita I would get upwards of 50 mph and even got 60 mpg on a 440 mile tank once. I would see the Prius C on those trips. I wouldn't worry too much about the mpg. It will be in the low to mid 40's which is about double the Camry. My advice: drive and joy.
Here's mine: Drive it like normal. If mpg is a major concern then go slower on the highway, or take backroads. Either way you have a hybrid that you like and you don't know what your job circumstances will be like in a few years anyway.
Definitely nothing wrong with a C ... hard to justify a 8 to 10k difference in price just for a little more room iPhone ?
When I was shopping for a car to reduce the cost of vehicle ownership, I was driving a V8 Tundra. I looked at a few different vehicles from Toyota/Scion, Ford, Nissan, and Chevrolet. It came down to a combination of previous experience, sticker price and fuel economy. The C really is the best bang for your buck IMO. It took some adjusting to get used to it, especially the acceleration, or lack there of. I recently took the C on a 5500+ mile road trip from NC to Yellowstone and back. On this trip I had mountains, high speed limit and a few really bad rain storms to contend with, I also drove between 5 - 10 mph over the posted limits. As a result I averaged 45 mpg according to the on board computer. No complaints there. The ride was comfortable consider I am a pretty BIG guy 6'2" 300lbs. I was worried about my comfort, but it was unfounded. Over all I am very happy with my decision to get the C. It fits my needs for transport, and is easier on my bank account than previous vehicles. People still ask how I fit in there, I think of it like a green Tardis, its bigger on the inside.
Welcome to PriusChat! …and No, it's never wrong to buy a Prius! …and the "C" is for CUTE! PS: …and you say you love it! …so what's not to like? …sounds good to me!
I went from a 4.6L V8 Mustang GT convertible to a Prius C and never looked back. Gotta love the interior, it's so techy. I spent $175 on gas in the Mustang from Texas to Minnesota then I drove from Vegas to Wiscansin and was shocked to have spent $70 on gas woop woop
