I used to buy alot of different brands of cars. Then I realized that that the Japanese products held up the best, cost less to own in the long run, and were the best value. My last "American" vehicle was a 2000 S-10. While the truck was OK, it was nothing great. The water pump started leaking at 1 year old with 30k miles. I called the dealership to get it fixed. They were a week out on work, but wanted me to bring it in and drop it off. I said I why should I bring it in when it is just going to sit there. They said it is first come first served. They would not give me a rental car either. I told them I would drive it until the water pump failed, and they could come pick it up on the side of the road. I traded it in on a 2001 Tacoma, and have never looked back.
