Does it have a part number stamped on it?

So no-one admits to putting it there? This is like playing Clue!

I say Professor Plum did it in the garage with the plastic bracket ...

I don't have the part on me, but there's no part number that I can remember seeing.

There's no part on the seat belt assembly that looks like that.

I'm with the idea that it's part of a kid's car seat...could the car have been taken for a test drive or did you get it fresh off the truck? Could someone have been checking for fit of a car seat? That's exactly what it looks like.

The car was still in plastic when I received it. Is there a similar picture for comparison?

Oh, so it was found in a brand new car? Now I see why you're so concerned.

    God I love a good mystery .... :)

Brand new. Because the part looks a little dinged, I thought an employee removed it and forgot to put it back.

Maybe it is not a Prius part at all? Some one dropped in the car at some point. I went over the seat belt and it does not look like it fits there at least not on my car. The sales person that attached my plates for me grabbed Ford attachment bolts and then made them work ( a Ford Toyota dealership) ! The service department replaced the front licenses plate holder. Luckily the rear bolts were in place. There was some muttering under the breath by the service people about sales people being allowed to touch a tool at any time! PC will figure this out I am sure! What fun for New Years. Almost as good as red beans and rice! B)

Perhaps, as a dude, I shouldn't know this. 1,200 count thread, according to my wife though, is mearly 600 count with 600 'doubled over' threads twisted together. So 600 threads per inch is realisticly, the max. That being said, yes, you did give a nice illustration. But as to what the gromet goes to? Unknown.

Pragmaicly, gromets prevent the inside thingie from rubbing on a surface rougher than the rubber itself. So check around for wire clusters, etc.

As long as my car doesn't fall apart with this piece, I won't worry too much.

Priceless. The next time you are at the dealer have some fun and ask around. If Parts and Service don't know ask the Ford guy.

Maybe it is for the recessed handle inside the hatch.
Open the hatch and look up and to your right.

I use that handle everyday, and it's definitely too small to be it.

I am not sure at all but go look at your door where the wiring harneses pass thru and see if that is it. it could not fall out with the wire going though it but might have been dropped inside the car during assembly

I'll take a picture of our child seat grommets this weekend and post them, or die trying.

It's not part of the wiring harness on the door. Those are also circular.
