Mine is parked in a heated garage also. When I do go out, it won't be parked outside more than 2 hours. We'll see.

  6. one day in Madison, it got down to 29 below zero, Fahrenheit and with the humidity there, that's COLD.

Over the weekend, I had this strange thing. It was a (relatively) warm day here in Bay area. I took out the car @ 9.30 AM, temp was 50 F, since car was inside garage, it didn't fire the ICE whole way (~5 miles) as I drove to basketball court for son's match. While returning, temp was actually bit up (53-54), but ICE fired up. I checked if AC was on, nope! Then at the next traffic light I just shut off the car and restarted it. From then on, ICE didn't fire till it drained completely!

  10. It is a strange car.

When was the last time ICE ran? If it is about 124 miles ago then it is for maintenance.

I am very light EV user. I charge the car mostly once a day I drive ~50 miles/day. When I parked in the garage previous night it was in ICE. One of the days in last month when temp in the morning was around 38-40, I could use EV completely for 10.5 miles without ICE kicking in even once. I thought it was because coolant being warm and heater off (parked in garage overnight) I might have had that result. But, then when I tried to repeat it, I could never do that. This was the first time I powered off and on and got back the EV without ICE. (My use of AC/heater is also inconsistent, not sure if there is some fuzzy logic based on the history of my usage!)

I guarantee you that at -29 degrees there is NO humidity. I grew up in the Mojave desert and it is Drier in WI at -20 degrees than in Barstow--and that is no joke. Moisture freezes out of the air at those temps and nose bleeds abound. Pip driving nice at zero today.

no idea, looks like you've got your work cut out for you.:)

  15. All I know is that I was colder that day in Wisconsin than I ever was in Greenland at -65 F, I put it down to the constant moisture that comes from the Great Lakes. And all those Great Lakes states have a relatively high moisture content in the air, Winter/Summer.

Yep, slowly I will reach that nirvana, then I wont pay attention on why it is running in EV or ICE. Too much data is too much analysis with diminishing returns. It is too complex system to second guess what really should happen.

So, I guess just leave it to the system!!!

left for work tonite, 43 in the garage, 19 outside. i think it's the coldest my pip has seen so far. burned off a few tenths before starting my commutea and no problem keeping the ice off. defrost worked well with foam rubber plugging my foot vents. recharge at work and home no problem. i can't imagine what it's like at zero!

Btw, how are foot plugs working out? Were you able to plug the vents fully.

i'd say about 95%, about as well as the dash vents when you shut them off. i haven't tried to figure out how to easily take it out and put it back in tho. not really a concern yet because i rarely use heat, and when i do, there's plenty from the dash and the other side. feets are definately warmer!
