ICE in EV Mode ... Again

Discussion in 'Gen 1 Prius Plug-in 2012-2015' started by PiPLosAngeles, Dec 9, 2012.

  1. Try brake position, I never had to replace my brake pads on my 2005, they were like new after 7 years.

  3. No, it will charge the Battery at a slightly lesser rate.

hmmm... lesser might be morer. could be worth a try, might not be enough recharge to kick the trigger.

I cover this in the FAQ. In EV mode, B ends up doing a more aggressive regen when you take your foot off the gas.
SJ pip, what exactly do you mean by "too steep"?? If you out the car in neutral and step on the brakes, the car can't stop??

  7. You could also partially charge at home. And finish charging on the downhill. In D or B.

i have been trying the partial charge. i have to remember to go out and check it tho. setting the stop time seems to be impossible to figure out when it's actually going to end.

  9. . I do not believe there is a stop time per say. The option is either when to stop/ when to start AND always with a full charge. example: you want to drive off at 0800' if it will take 2.5 hours then set to start at 0600 and interupt charge at 0800 , drive down hill to complete the charge you desire. Simple right? Actually not simple, but relatively complicated.

it would be simpler if i had a set time to leave each day. :)

Well, yesterday it was in the low 40's here during the day- gave the PIP a full charge at work. With the warm(ish) temps there was no need for the ICE to come on before I called for it.
At the end of my 28mi commute I attained 90mpg (indicated), that's with my snow tires on...

ICE started yesterday even though I used N, but suspect it was because outside temp was 34°F.

Same story as always. Fully charged, downhill from the start with stop signs. Got to level ground and hit ~42 mph and the ICE kicked on.

that sounds almost exactly like my situation. except i burn off about 3/10 before i hit the hill. i have found driving the other way for a tenth and back helps, or trying to unplug before fully charged. i also think i have to keep it under 40 mph. interesting that neutral didn't work. ice actually started while you were in neutral?
