Yes, if I get caught at the first light after pulling out of the driveway. I wouldn't be going over 20 mph. ICE had never triggered.

Return trip has longer steeper downhill. If I get caught at light, SOC is about 77-78%.

just finished my EV driving for the day, EV estimate right now: 1.3 miles, trip odo A, 8.6 miles, so EV range is down to 9.9 miles, with just Pandora and rear defroster, no headlights, no AC, no heated seats. Peak MPH about 35, average 20 MPH.

left on my commute tonite, 44 in the garage, 27 outside. full charge 12.4 on the meter. goosed it to try to reduce the charge before i reached the ice trigger site. hit the trigger at 11.9 and the ice fired. rats! tomorrow, i'm going to try a partial charge and see what happens.

Lol if I were you I'd just resign myself to using N and be done with it.
But I guess if you want to torture yourself in the name of scienceā€¦

K...to re-add to the confusion...today the ICE fired...same route...same temp...heater still on HI. The only thing I can think of is that I had to accelerate faster, nowhere near where ICE should have come on but still.

The was someone behind me who wanted to break the standing start record and I caved so went from turtle to crawl and it fired. Not much crawl but apparently enough to piss off the computer.

If we ever want to get a handle on this car we have to kidnap a Toyota computer engineer, put him in a room with Priuskitty until just before the computer engineer's brain explodes (which may not be too long) and demand he tell us the secrets.

It's a no-win situation in cold temps, if you step on it trying to burn off some battery- once you reach a sufficient speed that the PIP calculates a hard break re-gen would overcharge the battery (at it's current low temperature) the ICE fires up anyway just in case. If we could all drive 20mph for the first few miles after a recharge- then we'd avoid the ICE startup- but I have to go faster than that on my own street!

We just have to live with the fact that the current software and hardware aren't optimized for near/below freezing temps. Battery protection trumps fuel economy. Oh well... even when the ICE fires up early due to the battery protection protocol- I can live with 74-80mpg on my trip to work... can't wait to see what mpg I'll get in the spring :)

i just did my commute with a partial charge, pulled the plug at 11.7 instead of 12.4 which is a full charge lately. temp was 40 in the garage and 22 outside. hit my ice firing dip at 11.3 and it stayed off!:p i'll keep doing this until i'm comfortable that the solution is leaving a little room in the battery.
