The Volt has an engine maintenance mode to run the ICE after a period of time of no ICE use, and a fuel maintenance one to burn off old fuel. I believe the car gives a driver a warning about it happening.

The PiP manual states how long on EV only it can go before the ICE is used for maintenance purposes.

The Prime has to have similar.

Yep, the Volt asks if you want to run the EMM when you start, or delay it until the next start up. It usually happens after about 6 weeks of not using any gas.

I thought of that, and didn't mention that the day before it ran on HV mode for 10 miles. So that isn't it.

No, only the radio. I even had the front windows down to cool the car instead of the fan.

Thought of this today. For charging the night before, I backed into the driveway with the nose to the street. The driveway, all 18 feet of it, is on a slight pitch upwards. Could the prime think it was traveling down a hill with the full charge, and decided to use HV instead? The downhill hypothesis has been brought up before, but that was mostly in much colder weather conditions.

I'll also add that since the nose of the car is always pointing down the same driveway every time I've charged, and I almost always charge to full, and this has never happened before - always started in EV - that I don't consider this a very probable explanation. More likely the car just lost its mind for a spell.

There's always that chance, but I hope it doesn't happen again. But still, charging to full and aiming downhill a little is how I always start off after loading up on electrons, so.... maybe.

Interesting thing about the front defroster, I turned the front defroster on last night (it was 70 F) stayed in EV all the time. Go figure:confused:

So, in one of the multiverses, the same you and in same Prime, their car went to HV. You were just the lucky one.
