How to get that darn MPH/KPH button to work.

It's the one that changes the dash brightness. Can't seem to get it to change the tachometer...

Mod Note: Note that the poster is referring to an EU Prius, not the same in N. America.

You're right, no one at the dealer knows how to set the air system on vent to get outside air only with no A/C. If you have the secret, please share. Also, not clear if the warranty requires going to the Toyota dealer for something as simple as an oil change. Can I take it to my independent mechanic?
    Thanks!

A lawyer wouldn't have been necessary. You're car was stolen, not re-possessed. Did the dealer have a lean on your title and if so were you in default on paying back the loan? That would be the only way they could have repossessed the car and even then they'd have to use a licensed repo and they check the paperwork and legality of everything *very* carefully first as they are on the hook. You should have have called the police to report your car stolen and notified your insurance company.

I've heard there is a way to adjust the volume for my speaker on my bluetooth system. Everyone I talk to says I am clear, but very quiet. Does anyone know how to do it on a 2009?

    1. Press the CLIMATE button. 2. Press the desired fan speed. 3. Push A/C button to turn A/C off.

Take it to your mechanic, but keep the service sheet showing the service, date, and mileage (just to be safe). Be sure to tell your mechanic not to overfill (read the recommended fluid capacity in the manual or this forum). If it is overfilled and you don't catch it then the result could very well be your fault.

    Hope this helps. :)

if you go into the telephone screen and press 'settings" you can adjust the volume you hear in the car as well as adjust the volume the person on the other end will hear, there is another adjustment that can be made as well, call echo iirc.

You want the version from your '04 or the current one? There's some way to find it via the MFD that I could figure out if I had it in front of me....but it's not worth the time.

It's easier to just pop the DVD out the back of the NAV (access it under the front driver's seat from the rear seat area). It's written on the disk.

I wish the dealer told me I'd only get 8-9 gallons per tank if I filled at the 2 pip mark.

I wish the dealer showed me how loud the Prius is when chugging uphill. I drive 14 miles uphill (4000 feet of elevation change) every workday and the whine of the Prius is surprisingly loud. The good news is that while doing so, the Prius has much more power and response than I expected.

    1. The bullshit about the fuel tank/bladder. After experiencing refueling problems during my first visit at the gas station I called the service advisor at Toyota. She tells me some crap about a bladder and that the tank should not ever fall below 1/3 full. When I tried to refill the tank which was on the last bar and 400 miles later it would only take 5.3 gallons. I thought that was odd and forced another 1.6 in. The salespeople never told me that supposedly I can't overfill the tank and that it needs to be refilled after it's got 1/3 left. What's up with that $%
$%#@%$#^$%? What if I'm in the middle of the desert ...

    2. The dealer markup on the extended warranty is horrendous.

I have to give kudos to the dealership at Santa Monica Toyota for spending a little over 2 hours with me in explaining how to work the car and the instruments on the car. After this special education, I was able to:

    1) Use the navigation system to find a Point of Interest
    2) Had my bluetooth phone paired with the system and had my phonebook uploaded.
    3) Able to use voice command to use the navigation, phone, and audio
    4) Successfully program the Homelink the first time
    5) Understand the child locks in the rear passenger door. If you take your car to a car wash, they may move the switch to a lock position which prevents the door from being opened from the inside.
    6) Know how to drive the car to get the best mileage. On my first tank, I'm averaging 47 mpg.

I recently started a job as a Toyota salesman, and became absolutely fascinated by the Hybrids from day one. This thread has been great...I was doing a decent job with Prius deliveries before, but y'all have pointed out some things I definitely overlooked. Thanks--keep 'em coming!

Sirius required a purchase of a separate part and I had to schedule an install with a third party.

all! I picked up my 2009 Spectra Blue Mica (option pkg #2) last Monday. I love it so far, but my mileage isn't great. I'm only at about 41mpg. It should be noted, however, that most of my driving is short-run suburban driving with a lot of hills.

My dealer showed me...practically nothing. He did explain how to turn on the car and drive it, and when I asked, he showed me where the spare tire was, but that was it. He didn't seem to know much about the car at all. So I've been reading the manual.

The whole gas tank issue worries me. I'm at about a third of a tank now, and haven't had to refuel yet. Should I refuel first thing tomorrow morning before driving anywhere? Is there any kind of rule of thumb about how many bars is the 'danger' point? And what the heck is the problem with letting it run lower than 1/3 of a tank, anyway? I seem to recall learning some years ago that it's good to run your tank down to practically fumes once in awhile.

Oh, and to answer the question of the thread: I really wish the dealer had shown me how to use the heat before I drove away. We picked it up at night, and it was cold, and my husband was following me home in our Saturn, so he couldn't figure it out and do it for me. So I froze driving home! I agree with the poster who said it would have been nice to have been told that "A/C" actually means both hot and cold temperature adjustments.

You can fill on the last bar safely..you should have a solid 50 miles range left...or more.
I usually drive until the last bar starts flashing as long as I know I'll be within about 20 miles of a gas station when it happens.

Since it's gotten colder I'm hanging around 40 mpg myself. I was getting around 50 over the summer.

I haven't ruled out an overfill of engine oil (I had my first oil change a couple of weeks ago just as it got cold) but I'm betting it's the weather.

I also have an '09 Spectra Blue and absolutely LOOOVE it!
Now have about 2500 miles on it and the current tank with 350 miles (90% NON Highway) shows 54.2 MPG!!! However the weather here in Naples Fl gets into the 70's every day. I try to be careful driving but I'm certainly no Hypermiler.
    Regards and happy holidays.

I test drove the current Prius with a friend and found that I liked the car much more from the passenger seat. I'm tall and when I drive I like to be able to lower my seat and slide it back quite aways. The current Prius lacks what I need to really get comfortable...gald to see they addressed these issues in the 2010 model...I can't wait to sit in one. :)

Thanks again for this thread. It did help me quite a bit in the dealership, and I even told my dealer a few things she didn't know!
