    The solution to place fob next to "Start"Button works, but what if your fob fails while outside the car? Your fob has a regular key, there is a latch on the top of the fob (up to 3rd generation, on later generations latch is on the side), slide it sideways and pull on the ring, use the mechanical key in the keyhole on the door! For later models the latch is on the side...push in by pressing on the dot in the button, pull on key ring! Looks dfferent from conventional key.

    not necessary, the important thing if you have to jump is NOT to reverse polarity.

    You are 100 percent correct about the sales persons. I have had experience with them----and just recently when I bought another new car.

    Sorry, I messed up this thread, clicked the wrong button! As for Jump Starting Prii, there's no need for the heavy jump cables we're used to...there are two batteries in the car...the big one to drive the electric traction motor and a small motorcycle type 12 v battery to run the accesories (I think the computers run off the big battery). This car has no starter that require humongous current to start, like regular cars. The small battery is in the back on the right side and not too easy to get to. There is a positive access point in the Fuse Box under the hood. On page 550 of the 2014 Prius (or look in index for "12 volt battery is discharged" or words to that effect.) Follow the instructions. Be careful! Pay attention to polarity! We had a 2006 Prius and replaced the battery once...kinda expensive...around $300...if you don't know this already, Prius parts are expensive! I'm not a DIY'er so I let Toyota do the work...There are many that do work on their cars them selves, but I don't. I tried to change head lamps once, but it was too hard to install (very cramped) so had the second one done by Toyota.
    We just purchased a 2014 Prius 3 (wish we had gotten the 5). It's my wife's car...she love's it but shies away from the tech stuff! We were sorely disappointed when the Tech guy who was showing us stuff said that the car didn't have auto off for head lights! We were really disappointed, BC we never bothered to turn off of turn on the headlights on the '06. We had thoughts of leaving lights in in the daytime and ending up with a dead battery. However, pouring thru the Users' book I found that by just turning on the light switch once and then from then on when we powered down, the lights went off in 30 sec, and when we powered up the lights automatically went on. I understand earlier models 2007-2009 lost that feature. But we're glad they reintruduced it!
    Our 2006 prius had 112000+ miles of excellent service. Very little maintenance problem. Tires wore well was able to get about 40K miles per set. Little 12v battery once, replaced both headlights once, and replaced fob battery once. As prev mentioned we let Toyota do the maintenance. Our dealer, Elk Grove Toyota dose an excellent job!

    One thing I think is just dumb … the air vent in the back seat. I'm sure one day that's gonna get blocked and fry my battery.

    If you turn the instrument brightness cluster dial all the way up, the 'day' screen comes on. I've been driving wondering why the heck it was so bright. Turn it down a bit and the night colors come on. Really wish I had known that!

    It is very easy for it to get blocked. My wife and I were going on on trip. About 2 hours after we left home I smelled a very strong odor. My wife had thrown a light jacket in the back seat and it covered up the vent, causing the batteries to overheat. Just as soon as the jacket was removed from the vent the odor was gone.

    The "brake lock on hills" feature where you press the brake quite hard, the yellow car icon flashes, and then the brakes hold for 2 seconds while you shift your foot from the brake to the gas pedal. Very useful and I had to read about it here on PriusChat a year after I bought the car! Works like a charm, too.

    Good choice! They got me too, but I cancelled it about a week later. No biggie, you're not the only one! Cancel it!

    Well, that dial is more to tell the cluster when to switch to night mode. There is no "dim" like analog display lights. I messed with it for a while thinking there was a dimming effect, but all it did was switch bright to dim at different levels of outside brightness. If there is a "dim" effect, it's very subtle.

    I think BT is Bluetooth, and, if I had to guess, I'd say that SKS = Smart Key Security (?) ..

    BT is Bluetooth and many other things like Multi-Function Display are defined in the glossary: PriusChat Glossary | PriusChat. I struggled with the initialisms as well but finally decided to seach the site when I saw this post

    Helpful too as it confirmed for me the B(raking) mode doesn't waste fuel but does waste that energy that might have been regenerated. It implies that the plug in model has more capacity (bigger motor I presume) to regenerate so it loses less. Of course, if conditions dictate use of B so you spare brake usage/wear, that's smarter (big, steep hills). Speaking of which, I really like how the cruise control will use up to maximum regen to maintain speed going down hills.

    I left the dealer with lots of questions but I'm a kinda person that likes to really go over what I can't get out of RTFM...Prepare to ask questions on possibly multiple visits, join a forum like this to get more info....every car I ever bought , I reached out to the community to get a multiple of resources and answers. Thank you now and in the future.

    I wish the sales guy wouldn't have lied to me when he said 2 years of toyota care came with the car. I asked to make sure and he said yes. Checked the paper work after purhase and Turns out it doesn't and it's a $3000 extra charge. Got mad and made them take it off the next day.

    Since when? It does come with 2 years... Unless this is something new... I bought my Plug-In Prius in August 2012 and have never paid for an oil change or any service yet. Mine did run out after the two years but my dealership offered a really cheap extended service (280 dollars) that literally paid for itself and 4 more free oil changes as well as 2 cabin filter changes and 1 intake filter.

    Thats not what it said in the paper work. Unless back then it either did come with the car free of charge or you didn't read all the purchase papers or my dealer was trying to stick it to me. Anyway with my Prius the Total with everything was $24k And after I had them take off the 2 year toyota care the total price went down to $21k. My payment also went down about $50.
