I think you miss my point. If a company wants to provide charging areas for employee’s cars, that’s fine with me. My problem is with the folks who seem to think it is the employer’s responsibility to provide this to the employee. There is a group in this country that seems to think that taking the employer’s electricity, for their private vehicle, is not theft but a right. I vehemently disagree with this philosophy. If a company offers this as a benefit to its employees, that is one thing, but if you look at the OP, this person saw no problem plugging his car into an outlet in his employer’s parking area without asking, and seemed incredulous that he was asked to stop. I am just pointing out that nothing is free and businesses have to pay for their power and they should not be forced to give it away for nothing. They think that private property doesn’t exist and that everything is public and by extension theirs for the taking. It isn’t about a single PiP owner; these folks would expect free electricity no matter how many car owners it is.

That isn't something I would be proud of.

    Why not? I deserve it.

I'm sensing some type of resentment in your responses. As if my personal lifestyle is a burden on you.

It will be, once your parents stop paying for everything for you.

What makes you think my parents are paying everything for me? I worked for about 40 years, supported a wife and three kids, put them all through private schools and colleges, and stashed away enough to live comfortably.

Earlier you said your mother paid for everything for you, so I took you at your word.

So how does someone who actually worked for a living, become a non believer in private property?

I very much believe in private property, I own a nice little piece. I also believe in treating employees fairly and if I provide benefits like plugging in personal heaters and coffee machines I should provide them for every employee. I don't make some employees use outdoor toilets and allow others to use indoor ones. I don't make an employee using an electric scooter pay to recharge their battery, so I am not going to tell someone with an EV that they are not allowed to charge their vehicle.

Btw, I would not say I "worked for a living", more like I was compensated for significant accomplishments.

Well I am happy for you, but just because you gave as much as you did as an employer, it doesn't mean someone else has to do the same. I am not rich, and no employer has ever given me that much, but I don’t feel that I have been cheated. Generosity is up to the individual. I have been generous with what I have, when I can be, but I won’t make others do the same. I have been brought up to understand that nothing is free. I would rather have a job, than no job because my employer gave too much away, and went out of business. I believe that we are responsible for ourselves. I don’t expect my employer to take care of me, or gas my car. I’m glad you were able to be generous with your employees, but other employers may not have that kind of money.

I didn't give them anything. They earned the money for the company and providing benefits in a fair and equitable fashion is just ethical. That is what successful employers do, or at least try to do, until some facility manager tries to do otherwise.
