I found the missing 4" (vertical) in the trunk. It is below the battery.

My trip length record in the 6 1/2 months since I got my Prime is interesting.

Most of my trips have been within the Prime's Ev range.
Four of my trips have been outside the Prime's Ev range but inside the Volt's Ev range, but all were between 0.1 and 5 miles beyond the Prime's range.
Two of my in-town trips were beyond my Prime's Ev range and also beyond the Volt's Ev range (both about 60 miles).
I've taken 10 trip legs out of town that were beyond the range of a Tesla Model S 100D without charging along the way. Of those 10, one was entirely outside the Model S 100D's range, even with charging along the way, and I am planning two more later this year. About half of those 10 were beyond the Volt's range including emptying the gas tank. Of course, the Volt is much easier to refill than the Model S.

the right car for the right conditions. obviously, MNdriver has different priorities.
if i were prioritizing efficiency, i would only use gas, and not plug in.

 

Given Boston electrical rates, it makes sense. Any possibility the utility rate setters are just a Koch/Shell puppet?

If only humans were like ants, then we would only need one car model that works for everyone.

 

I realized a long time ago that the ideal car is a pickup truck, a 4WD SUV, a minivan, a sports car, and an economy car. Oh yeah and a five-car garage. You then take whichever vehicle is most appropriate for each trip.

Actually nowadays we can split economy car into hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and BEV, each being more or less suitable for a particular trip. So make that a seven-car garage.
