I can't hear my HV battery fan...Should I worry?

That's not entirely true. I hear my fan all the time. I would argue that if the fan or pathway is obstructed, you would hear it less. It takes a tuned ear to to hear it. My fan sounds like a constant crashing of waves, from a distance, while pondering the universe. It's been like that from mile 3 to 94,354 and counting.

 

Virtually and absolutely are two different things. Noise levels are in the ear of the beholder.

Kind of similar to what my wife asked me while we were on our way to a camping trip. "Did I left the stove on?" I guess we'll gonna find out when we get back home from the trip..

if you have an OBDII dongle and an app like Torque it can show the readings from the 3 temperature sensors that are mounted on the batteries and the sensor inside the box that measures hv battery air temperature, as well as the fan speed setting. it can also show you internal resistance, voltage, and current.

 

I have never heard mine so I completely forgotten about the fan until this tread

I think without trouble codes they're not likely to do anything for free. A few member have mentioned dealerships offering fan cleaning service, for multiple $100's.

Regardless, I would just dive in, have a look yourself. It takes an hour or two. @NutzAboutBolts has a how-to video, linked in thread pinned at top of 3rd gen maintenance forum. Only thing: I would not remove the rear seat (as they show in the video), just push apart the seat and back, just below the fan inlet grill, and reach through with a 12 mm socket on an extension: there's a single bolt needs removal.

There's a bunch of plastic clips holding the hatch floor to the top of the battery. They're tough to pry up, just take your time. I left most of them off when reinstalling, makes next time easier.

I found I could clean the fan without complete removal, just run a q-tip along each blade in the squirrel cage. Compressed air is good too, either an air compressor, or a wet/dry on blow, or leaf blower. What have you. Duster boas are good too, run through the air ductwork.
